Joanna Newsom – Emily Lyrics 18 years ago
I think the 'boing boing' instrument that sifellt neytandi mentions is used to highlight what she's singing at that time. She uses the word 'pa' which sounds like a very southern kind of slang to me, and she's talking about when she was little. I like it, it makes that little segment sound very childlike and innocent. It adds feeling too.

Joni Mitchell – Blue Lyrics 18 years ago
she also connects songs to be like tattoos, and I think that, like in a lot of her songs, her choices about music have both given her purpose and made her lonely. The business is tempting her into its traps like 'Acid, booze, and ass, needles, guns, and grass', but in proclaiming her love for Blue she is trying to stay in touch with her love of music and reality.

Blue, here is a shell for you
Inside you'll hear a sigh
A foggy lullaby
There is your song from me

I think this is referring to making an imprint on the music scene and being properly understood, perhaps some self-doubt in 'a foggy lullabye'?

Cold War Kids – Hang Me Up to Dry Lyrics 18 years ago
I disagree with trying to find a specific meaning in this song. What I know about songwriting (which is not a lot) is that a lot of catchy songs are born out of the blue-without a concious decision about what message it should carry. I think this is one of those songs where it should mean anything the listener wants it to. Perhaps that's what makes popular songs so popular-because everyone can find something within them. Which is brilliant! I think that sometimes over-analysing can subtract from the wicked-ness of the song.
