| David Bazan – Fewer Broken Pieces Lyrics

Well, Bazan as I've seen him live, is very humble, in Philly, I watched him walk in and out of the backstage for beers and piss before the show, he was humble to the point of seeming shy. And he was self deprecating on his abilities as a guitarist. I think when he says "I still run the show, and don't you forget it" it's fairly tongue and cheek, but introspective as well (he's not a cocky person, but part of him thinks that way). |

To me it's about marketing and advertising, how they give you an image of beauty the use of "Sell me, give me, and illusion of industry dream" seem to point that way to me. And I agree that this has a lot to do with how we learn about sexual roles in life. |

I think it's about the death penalty. Uniform referring to a prison uniform, "laying down in chambers waiting for the call. seen your kind so many times you got no chance at all laid out immobile hoping for that call it's in my mouth, under my skin sodium pentathol" the call being a stay of execution. Also at the end, with the whistling, you can hear breathing, slow down and then stop, like the life. |

| The Hold Steady – The Swish Lyrics

The Shakers, a religious group is known for shaking, convulsing, trembling, shouting, singing, glossolalia, and of course shaking (all things one should do at a Hold Steady show). Shaker Heights was originally a Shaker settlement, not sure if that's the reverence, but Craig Finn is known for double meanings, triple and the like. |
