Lamb of God – In Your Words Lyrics 16 years ago
Wow...I know others have brought this up, but I have to say that you butchered the lyrics for this one. The original lyrics however, are great.

Anyway, as far as the meaning of the song goes, my best guess is that it's mocking Jesus?
"Pathetic and shameless, crucified
A legend in his own mind, enthroned by lies"

Zao – The Lesser Lights of Heaven Lyrics 16 years ago
Sorry FarBeyondMetal, I really gotta go with the angel theory here...it fits perfectly in every verse. As we are, according to the Bible, greater then angels, they are the lesser lights of heaven. I'm must gonna point out a few key verses:

The lesser lights of heaven are screaming in our mind
Listen to the chorus
So divine and unkind

It's the angels crying out, for, according to the concept of the album, the human race is responsible for God's death.

The lesser lights of heaven are burning for their Son
Praying for the presence
That birthed them into one

They miss Jesus, the son, that created him.

The lesser lights of heaven cast crowns before your throne
Dissipate into nothing
We truly are alone

The angels eventually die or go away, with no reason to be. This leaves us, the human race, utterly and totally alone to our own devices. And, according to "Praise the War Machine", we, being the intelligent race of beings we are, kill each other off. As an aside: if you look at the lyrics of each individual song on the album in order, it's all chronological. First a prophet get's guidance from the black muse (a spirit...I only know about it from "The Odyssey, haha), and he prophesies what's to come. Then God dies, and there is a funeral. Then the angels die, leaving us totally on our own. Soon, we're at war with everyone and kill each other off, for the most part. Later generations lament on how there is nothing left but Hell after death (We all survive the grave (Unfortunate eternal)). Eventually, the human race dies off and we're all left in hell (These streets aren't paved with gold).

He Is Legend – China White II Lyrics 17 years ago
Wow, right one, that sounds like a perfect translation. Well, almost perfect. I don't think the girl is the one in the cellar, but rather, her mother.

Daughter: "Mother, father, where did you go?
I hear the flowers as they speak below.
(the DAUGHTER hearing the MOTHER crying out)

Someone help me, I'm so afraid.
The shape in the distance is coming my way."
(she sees this man who's been keeping her MOTHER in this cellar)

"Oh, please come hold me." said the woman all covered in leaves.
(this could explain more that she's underground. "covered in leaves = under the leaves that fall off in the Fall)

"He's come again. The man with the roses that grow from his hands."
(if she's being tortured with "china white," then she's tripping and not decyphering his hands from the flowers he's holding)

But other then that little discrepancy, great translation.

He Is Legend – China White Lyrics 17 years ago
Indeed effigy, that would be the logical conclusion from knowing these lyrics. But you should also look at the lyrics for China White II...the "old man" kills the father of a child, and then enslaves the mother, telling the daughter that she is the next to die. Several lines in that song point to him using their remains as fertilizer for his "flowers". Maybe this is a little bit of a logical leap, but could the guy be addicted to killing? If the "flowers" are heroin, and he gets his "flowers" by slaughter and enslavement, then this guy is one sadistic bastard.

Frontman Ryland Raus [says]: “This video has a pretty dark feel to it. Scattered throughout are grungy and semi creepy shots showcasing vintage items. There is a fair amount of acting in it as well as some fierce live shots. This song brings to light the dark side of spoiled and selfish relationships…also venting the deep regret that comes along with them. The small child in the video represents the innocence that we all once had. As he encounters different situations he learns that life isn’t what he thought it was and eventually ends up hiding from his troubles in a large box…the box basically representing running from your fears or who your supposed to be.”

Alex...yeah, it is in some ways. But, then again, the whole album is. In fact, the word "north" is used several times in the album, as is the word "cycle". And they refer to "coming down" a few times before the song "Coming Down is Calming Down". Just as in Define the Great Line, this album has huge connections that are not just a linear story, but have intricate morals and themes weaved throughout...it's just so...amazing! Haha. Just look at all of the lyrics, very closely, seeing any connections and then you get a huge amount of meaning for this album, and if you do the same for DTGL, you'll see the same in that album, but also between the two albums...and...wow. I'm rambling now. Time to shut up.

Shamrockandroll: nice work, but I'd think it's more about a daily struggle against sin and temptation then the antichrist. So I kind of think it's a combination between you and cyperpunk2120.

Unearth77...actually, those were some good connections, but simply by knowing what the band is about I can tell that wasn't their intent.

Inhale Exhale – It's Myself Vs. Being a Man Lyrics 17 years ago
I think that this is basically a message to Christians...I'll start with verse one.

"Dreams are gone. Nightmares are here to stay." This obviously is just stating that something is in a bad state, perhaps the world or your life. "Not doing when you know is the greatest crime." This is really the line that makes me think these lyrics mean what I said. Not telling people about Jesus when you know he is the savior of everyone who believes in him is the greatest crime. "Wake up spilling hatred for each other everywhere." Just saying that humans are so prone to hatred against each other. "How cheap is your love? Lying to keep a peace." You say you love people, but you commit a lie of ommision by not telling them about Jesus. You do this because you think they'd think that you are wierd, or won't believe you, but since you're letting them go to hell, your love is cheap.

Alright, now for the pre-chorus.

"And oh how we’ve ended up in this place." You're in this place mentioned at the beginning of verse one, where "dreams are gone" and "nightmares are here to stay".
"This place we’re trapped by greed." You not telling others about Jesus is greedy, and you "end up in this place" trapped by that greed.

The whole chorus is passionate and sad, but even more so when you have a grasp of the lyrics:

"Who said this won’t be perfect
After all we know what’s right." Since you know what's right, and you know what you SHOULD do, this should be perfect. Unfortunately it's not perfect, because you don't act on what you know, and because of that people go to hell,
"And the sounds of bodies clashing" are
"enough to make them cry."

"You know this won’t be perfect
Even when it’s feeling right." Deep down you know that it's not perfect, know that you're doing something wrong.
"And the sounds of bodies crashing
Echo through the night."

OK...verse 2:

"Silence. Something’s not right in this house." The house is symbolic of the Earth. "This room I lay my head is haunted by mistakes." The room is symbolic of where you live, the area, where you go on a day-to-day basis. "Crimes of passion? Or was it the way they were raised?" Is it their fault that they're sinners, or was it the way that they were raised?

Then the pre-chorus/chorus again. And now for the very short verse 3:

"Darkness fills this as does the empty bottles." In remorse for you've done, you try to drown the pain with alcohol. "I wait for the day you come home. When this house is no longer standing." You wait for the return of Jesus and the rapture, when this world will no longer stand. Well, it will, but it won't be nearly the same after we come back from the seven years.

Actually, there is one more thing I'd like to sayL

"I saw the future as endless reaches. The skyline's promise, has left me faced with.
Who's dreams are you killing? And who's pockets are you filling?
Are you where you said you would be in the end?"

I love these lines...the "endless reaches" are eternity, and the future the narrator saw was that spent in either heaven or hell. Seeing this future, he's left with the question proposed by the chorus: "Whos dreams are you killing" (by not saving the lost souls).

Oh, Sleeper – The End Of A Dark Campaign (The Amputation) Lyrics 17 years ago
The story is rather clear...the problem in deciphering it is figuring out what it is a metaphor for. My guess is...well, right now, I simply don't have one. I may come back later to take another stab, but my mind simply isn't working at full capacity right now.

Oh, Sleeper – Revelations In The Calm Lyrics 17 years ago
Wereship...I think you have it pretty good, though during the pre-Rapture period, I doubt it will be anywhere near as bad as the holocaust. During the tribulation however...well, the world has never seen anything comparable.

"We could all bear the world, and fold our dreams to faults.
But when did hope fall short, and force our lines to crawl?"

I love that line, it's a great way to say to hold onto hope, and to press through struggles.

S"o when hell is at the gates, who will stand and meet the waves
and take the fight to their graves to end the dark campaign?
Its the reason we have come to the forefront of this war."

I think this is what that second verse was leading up to, saying that we need to have the courage to battle the enemy.

Oh, Sleeper – His Name was Bishop Lyrics 17 years ago
It seems to be someone in a position of power - a bishop - who has lost his way. Additionally, the point of view seems to be from someone of equal stature, but not corrupt. I think the narrator seems to be saying that while he pulls ahead, using the chains that the other bishop traded for a crown, the other bishop used that crown and position of power to lord over the weak, becoming strong through his deception. And at the end, the other bishop is found guilty and burned. Cheerful song :)

Oh, Sleeper – The Sirens Song Lyrics 17 years ago
"We came from the pile.
We came from the dead and dying.
But the moment you pulled
You brought us back to the living."

Basically saying that they were sinners brought to God. The rest of the song, up to the turning point, is just a metaphor for spiritual warfare/saving lost souls. But than:

"She's the one that you want The soft wet skin that haunts."

Just when they are about to begin the fight, the spiritual battle, he gives into temptation and falls into sin.

Sorry for the double post, but one more thing:

"Why spare the life of inglorious waste? Why let him live?
He's just hunting your own! How can you just sit there and watch?
"Because i love you more than you know. Look again and tell me what you see!"
In the window was me. The massacres were all me!"

Basically the turning point in the song I mentioned in my previous post. After recounting all the horrible deads, the narrator asks how this person, this evil CHARLATAN who led so many astray could be allowed to live. Than he realizes that the person is him, and starts begging for mercy. I like the irony...

I'm gonna give my take on the song, but first of all, Ex Nihilo...is that a reference to the Becoming the Archetype song? If that's the case, than you're my hero ;)

Anyway...

To be blunt, it's pretty simple. The first half is all about the horrible wrongs someone committed and the second half says how God will forgive you no matter what. BTW, I love the last line:
"Oh, forgiver! Where is justice in letting me live?"
Saying how undeserving we are of his limitless love.

Oh, Sleeper – We Are the Archers Lyrics 17 years ago
"We watched them fall..."

Fall...as in die, literally? That could be. Or perhaps fall from Christianity. Either way, I think the whole war that the song tells of is a metaphor to the spiritual war being waged: it's message is that we have to learn how to save the lost souls for the Lord.

Oh, Sleeper – I Will Welcome The Reaping Lyrics 17 years ago
This is just my take on the song...line by line

It seems to be talking about the human race in the beginning:

"Like maggots, they breed with headlines, dining the wounds in breathless cadavers."

Shows how we, as humans, are so inclined to start wars and kill each other.

"Mirror blind and aimed for gold. Now watch a terror turn on its own."

Perhaps the first sentence refers to the greed of humans, and the "terror" turning on its own...I think that refers to the whole killing thing again.

"They race. And they race to the carcass rot to feed.
And just past decay, this design delivers life, but they prefer to play cancer."

I think the third sentence of this line is saying that if we stop wars and killing, we could find ways to live longer and better, but we'd "prefer to play cancer", or let diseases go without curing them...something along those lines anyway.

"In chase for the sky, towers uprise. In fear, the earth quakes for what's forgot."

Saying how we build such grand buildings, etc. I think the second sentence is kinda the turning point in the song...from there on out it seems to be referring, basically, to the tribulation period. I bet a lot of these lines refer to things in the book of Revelations in the Bible, but researching it all out would take time.

"One day the reaping will return, and we'll be butchers no more.
Bring this slaughter home, and send everything above."

Perhaps referring to the rapture, sending "everything above" to heaven.

Oh, Sleeper – Vices Like Vipers Lyrics 17 years ago
The whole song, every line, shows that it's about a man struggling with lust and greed. Apparently this is holding him back in several ways and making things bad in his life. The line "Why do we keep what holds us? Why do I keep what holds me down?" asks why we continue to partake in these self-destructive acrivities.

Several times it's indicated that "You" - God, if the capital letter is any indicator - told the narrator to stop what he's lusting for, specifically "This, my lust, the pornos and the sluts". And the line "When I am God, this church is unsound" is saying that when the narrator puts his own desires above God, everything is bad. However, the narrator didn't stop, as illustrated by the lines "But I did not shed that skin like You said" and "Like the viper I kept when You said, "Let go!""

By the end, the narrator seems to push away from his lust.
"Lose the weight of defeat. It's time to stand your ground!"
...
"This, my lust, the pornos and the sluts.
Take, my lust, this world's Love.
Great Councilor, take what's left.
Great Councilor, take what's left of me "

Hope this helped :)

You will let me down, down, down!

That could easily fit in with the whole Israel thing

First off, it doesn't sound at all like that. Secondly it wouldn't fit in, although some would have us think it does.

Non-believer? Muslim? fite_4_Christ is definitely right...this is talking about Satanism.

"Now you bleed for the lord of hate that you stole from the pages of truth
And separate the product from its own account, to birth a gospel of inferior view"

Who is the lord of hate? Satan. Who stole from the pages of truth? Satan. He "separated the product from its own account to birth a gospel of inferior view": Satanism. And black reign...the original title of the song...sounds like Satanism to me.

All of you people saying it's about giving into sexual temptations...completely right. With 158 comments, this song has been talked to death, so let me just add my two cents: A Boy Brushed Red...Living in a World of Black and White.

That title...is that saying that he (the writer...not the one who lost his virginity) is one of the only virgins (brushed red...unique...) in a world of people that give into their lust (a world of black and white)? Seems that way to me.

Seems to be talking about living in a world of sinners.

Choke back the burn of wrath as they violate your name
No sign of innocence in this godforsaken place
When the truth is in your hands, they’ll spit upon your face

And maybe not conforming to the world?

See the struggle of the faithless lot as they negate their time
How low to sink to the depths of their frame of mind

And than "Shed rejection" I think means to shed the rejection of the world as the call you "Jesus freak" and the such.

I think the meaning is rather obvious: fighting Satan and worshipers of him.

Wicked sons of heaven's loss
Raise your own inverted cross

Definitely not just talking about the sinner, but WORSHIPERS of Satan.

Wake the lifeless, die to fight this
Stand beside me. Storm the Gates of Hell

And that would obviously be about fighting.

No more lies, no regrets
Sever ties and hollow debts
Open eyes, live to learn
Or watch your blessed temple burn

I'm almost positive this part is talking to Christians. "Sever ties..." with worldly things perhaps? And "Open eyes" through "temple burn" seem to be telling Christians to wake up and fight the evil of Hell.

On another note...sick song. Great way to open the album, and has DH's trademark amazing lyrics. Probably my favorite lyrics from the album besides those on "Sixteen". Well, it's a tough decision, there all so awesome!

If the first is the case...well, one would be foolish to believe in ALL religions. If the latter is the case, you'd really better do your research, because no major religion says that.
