| Sting – Fortress Around Your Heart Lyrics | 18 years ago |

i think the above is a pretty good interpretation of the song. however, for the lyrics: "Then I went off to fight some battle That I'd invented inside my head Away so long for years and years You probably thought or even wished that I was dead" i always took them as a reference to him being unfaithful to tomelty[his former wife]by indulging in 'rock star' behaviour. and i would wish my 'spouse' dead if he slepted with groupies!?! |

In interview in Rolling Stone - From Art School to the Hall of Fame: R.E.M. Gives a Tour of Their Discography, "Stipe: For me, the big moment is 'World Leader Pretend.' It's a tribute to Leonard Cohen, using military terms to describe a battle within. I was so proud of the lyrics and my vocal take that I refused to sing it a second time. I did it once. That was it." brilliant song |
