The Beatles – Revolution 9 Lyrics 18 years ago
First time I heard this, there is a baby crying or someone screaming, or something like that about halfway through, and it freaked me out. I might have been high or tripping or something, but it still gets me every time.

Zooey gave the main idea, and egotripping explained why. The Shins lyrics are extremely obscure, and sometimes with the accents it's even harder to get what they are saying, but they are interpretable.

Being infatuated with someone, maybe a person you just started hanging around or maybe an ex you started talking to again, and wanting to be with them but not being able to read what they want.

They send mix signals at you and you don't know what they want from you. They talk to you with some sort of passion, "but your lips when we speak, are the valleys and peaks of a mountain range on fire," but because of the relationship you have, you're extremely cautious about how you approach the situation, "your clever eyes could easily disguise, some backwards purpose." Those lines make me think there is some sort of mistrust and a back story to a relationship where he was hurt someway in the past making him worry.

And this line, "cause you know as soon as breathe we scrutinize," kind of makes me think it's about an ex because maybe in their past relationship they constantly bickered and argued about stupid things.

These lines, "this is no umbrella to take into the wind, and before we begin is there nothing to kill this anxiety," make me think that if the couple gets back together they are in for a hell of a storm with no protection. Again because of the bickering and they can't do anything about it, it just has to happen for them to clear the air about the past and there's nothing to stop it. That's what is worrying him and he wants to get rid of the anxiety and just know what's going on.

So I guess I'd have to say it's more about being infatuated with an ex, and beginning to talk with one again rather then just any regular person you just meet. You take caution because of the past and fear of getting hurt.

I'd have to say that Thumbsucker is actually an extremely underrated movie in my opinion.

But this song is definately about first love, and definately middle school type stuff.

"Walk home from school"
"Tickets for the dance"
"Meet at the pool"

Sounds exactly like the love of your life when you're in 8th grade.

Against Me! – Wagon Wheel (Old Crow Medicine Show cover) Lyrics 18 years ago
This song was actually written by Bob Dylan. He recorded parts of it on a bootleg album, that I still can't find, but never actually released it. OCMS covered it and played it for the first time at a festival where Dylan was the guest of honor. I like both versions of the song. Against Me!'s version is a lot more mellow, which is weird considering most of the music that they release, and the OCMS version is a lot more up beat and country. In the OCMS version, you can almost lose touch to the fact that this is somewhat of a love song.

Either way, it doesn't change the meaning. It's about finding yourself and your true love. I could go into more detail, but I think that pretty much sums it up.

Against Me! – Cavalier Eternal Lyrics 18 years ago
I'm not a big Against Me! fan, but I like this song a lot. It actually pisses me off how good of a song it is, if that makes sense to you.

I think a lot of people look past the meaning of this song's title itself. Cavalier is a name for a mounted soldier, but it also means arrogant. Arrogant forever. I think when you look at the lyrics of the song the title has a lot to give to the meaning of them.

It's about two people that fall out of love, but still love each other, yet feel bad because they can't go back to the way things use to be. They both hurt one another during the relationship; "And it wasn't the other men, 'cause there were other women," whether it was from cheating or emotionally. They still think about each other; "Someday I will call from a pay phone in a truck stop on the road," because they'd like to keep in touch and know how the other person is doing in life. And they feel bad that they can't be with that person; "This just isn't love, It's just the remorse of a loss of a feeling," feeling guilty that they can't be with that other person the way they use to be. And this is when the title of the song comes in. Cavalier Eternal, or Arrogant Forever. These two people were meant for one another, and they still both love one another, but they know that things won't be the same when they get back together and they think that it won't last. So they don't take the chance. The two people are both too arrogant to go back to someone that they still love but won't accept that they still love them. It's almost like this song is about making a choice in a relationship that you will both always regret.

That's just how I see it.
