Is there nothing this band cannot do? Easily my favourite off the album. But I'm eager to see where this functions in the movie. In the greater context of the album, I wonder, is this being sung to the old man as he reflects on life? Who is this for? Who is singing this? Cannot wait for the movie, in short. |

| @joca13: They definitely sound accurate! :D Where did you get them from, out of curiosity? The single itself is only available 11/22 in the US :( | |

So in love with this new single! It's totally worth the wait of six years. That said, I agree with RemusEiren; the lyrics posted at the top sound a lot more accurate. I guess we'll have to wait for either the booklet or for lyrics to go up on the Nightwish website. |

| Dir En Grey – Merciless Cult (English) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
It could simply refer to a cult as a generic entity - once it goes extreme, the original intent of the cult is lost, the "romantic ideal" they once stood for. ["With comparing and getting things in proportion you scream out mad You wanted this ending to happen You must be a romanticist"] It all turns to senseless violence. ["But I just remembered that there is no love here Over and Over somewhere begins to break"] But so blinded are they in what they think is right, they think it will bring acceptance to their cause, and with justification for their terrible deeds. ["Please love me, this blood and the meaning Please love me, this day and this value"] This goes for any kind of cult, I would think, whether religious, political, fan, anti-fan, whatever. |

Did this song (and Maynard's interp off aMOTION) remind anyone of the poem "Porphyria's Lover" by Robert Browning? In it, the main persona's lover, a girl named Porphyria who is of a higher class than he, comes to him in the middle of a stormy night, and claims to always want to be with him. He knows social obligations would keep her away eventually, so he wants to preserve her as she is in that state. So, he takes her golden hair and strangles her with it, and lays her next to him, blue eyes open and everything. He tries to justify his action by saying that is what she wanted at the moment, that in a way, her assent was given though she never knew how to vocalize it. Creepy (but beautiful) poem...and for once I think I may be understanding this song. |

| Gazette – Filth in the Beauty Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Incestuous rape sounds accurate, but then again, if you watch the video, there's this disgusting old man looking like he's getting it on with this much younger girl. It could be a Lolita reference, since in the book Humbert was a "father" figure to Lolita (course, there was more to it in his mind than that :shudder:), and his life ultimately spirals downward, like in the end of the song. | |
| Gackt – Sekirei ~seki-ray~ Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It refers to a certain kind of bird...("seki-ray") I forgot which. >.< But there's a special habit about its migratorial pattern; I think it has something to do with that (I found a translated version a long time ago...I should look it up again O_O) | |
| Gackt – Seven [English] Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I heard the Gackt/Hyde version first...it's a lot better than Gackt by himself...good song, though. | |
| Gackt – Last Song [English] Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song makes me tear up every time I hear it...I too am surprised no one else is commenting; this HAS to be one of Gackt's greatest, most beautiful songs. It's a pity his voice now is nowhere near its old fullness with M+M and pre-Crescent. | |
| Nightwish – Nemo Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I agree with the majority of the opinions here, but a side nitpick: "nemo" literally means "no one", not exactly "nobody"... Again, really uber nitpick, but as I happen to be a discipulus latinae...XD But Yeah, I do agree it's in reference to Cpt. Nemo of 20,000 Leagues...awesome book, might I add. |

| Nightwish – Sahara Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Huh.... Could "1001 nights" refer to the Tales of the Arabian Nights? The Philosopher and Queen, perhaps on layer could they be the same (in reference to Schezerazade, the princess who entertained the Sultan with the 1001 tales?) It seems Tuomas likes to layer his meanings with literary allusions...could this be one? The title somewhat fits the theme... |
