This song is about the news and how it was used to mess up american opinions / "knowledge" during the iraq war, which was about oil. You can't deny it, especially the part about september 11th: "The longest night new york had never slept" first, the intro talks about how we came into there by creating the image of somebody surveying "the glittery borders [of a] new radius, in search of a city of mud (duh, middle east, baghdad, formerly babylon, on the floodplains of mesopotamia) and crushed velvet (meaning fancyness)" teh rest is self explanatory in this part. (gotta warn:the lyrics posted on this site for now are kinda off, listen yourselves) the song kicks in talking about "cutters of the pie" or, americans coming in with their collars-popped (being cocky), waving jolly rogers (the skull and crossbows pirates flew when doing piratey things). "snuck a jimmy (not a jammy, a jimmy is what pro car theives open your car with) through the red tape in Bristol fashion" ..bristol being a reference to a british medieval (and still existing) town, and red tape is an aphorism for "political barriers". The british reference may be calling us 1800s british colonizers or medieval christian crusaders coming illegally / for questionable reasons to Iraq. the rest of this verse has similar themes, mentions citronella for algernon, which is a reference to the book "flowers for algernon" about a scientist playing god with a lab rat in a maze, and citronella is not only mosquito repellant but also rat poison, I figured I'd talk about this part since it's the title of the song, and it is a metaphor about how we poison the middle east, which is already a lab rat we've been putting in a political maze and playing God in a way since the Gulf War. The rest of the song is similar, more on the side of making fun of americans / the army (the whole paragraph starting with coming in in an armored car to the arms bazzar (which lyrically is amazing, the buzzy words and the way he says them conjure up imagery of a big stupid hummer coming in). Clone-tards are soldiers, still clutching their teddy bears, etc. "Babylon burns beta till the end" is an amazing line, babylon as I said is one of the first cities in the world, if you remember history.. and while we're there it "burns beta" - beta is a stage of development in a project like rebuilding an online website that comes after the first stage (alpha), it is the stage where you implement the design and watch out for any kinks / things going wrong.. remember facebook beta? ok. In this context it is a reference to how we tried to implement our "democratic" system in "babylon" and its a project burning in its beta stage until the end.. how we dont really have a good exit plan, etc. this song is one of aesop's ..if not the number one for me.. best uses of complicated lyrics and references, and awesome messages. It is not simply about Iraq, it is about the media, and here's where I explain, for those still with me, that.. "and when the radio stars climbed up out of the floors to murder the medium that shot 'em 30 years before they said... (kill the television. kill the television. kill the television. typical, isn't it?)" in this part he talks about talk radio hosts coming up to denounce the television, which killed the medium of talk radio, which is something that kinda happened when it became more clear pop news channels like fox were just that: news channels, not journalism... journalism being reporting of the truth, the news being an entertaining way to view the truth that can easily be shaped by biases and political ties with network leaders, etc. this song is not too hard, and well worth looking up any referrences you don't understand. In general, you can check out that movie "farenheit 9/11" if you dont understand what Im talking about or think I sound like a conspiracy theorist / idiot who wants to tell you all about their political views. |

paragraph1: hitting on a girl -offering her a drink (sovereign) -he'd dance if she only smiled -he probably gets rejected "im only joking, its easier to win a slot machine' -max comes in, sells him some pills (ex) p2 and two little ones: he leaces and trips around through alleys, makes it to some parties in bedrooms, and then runs through some alleys -his moms raybans (expensive suglasses), acting like hes from Only Ones (brit show about guys trying ot get rich), he is talking about feelin like hes rich, theyre his moms shades, the Only Ones refrence followed by "and mayeb I am", it doesnt matter though: "This aint no crash..kids swingin bedroom hangin' (its a party, hes feelin good, the Ex influencin too) 'the police are sure to come soon'' run run sonny run the half mile' he runs into an alley i guess from the cops (paranoia?) p4-5: gets outta alley, gets in another place, gets a girl in the alleys hes on the floor i guess, and then hes at some other place drinkin with a chick, talkin about "need a hug, need some violent seduction" (ex needs) he needs a licker, or lollipop or whatever, hes grinding teeth from the ex, then hes starin at her talk spacin out a bit, and then gets some: She don't know what she's chating about They love it when they live it and liver lover give rip it unwritten There she start kissing and I'm loving loving loving she's always hugging I'm just loving loving then a modified "run, run sonny" bit where the line abotu cops comin soon is infused and then the last two paragraphs of regret: one talking about how kids are idiots, parents get no sleep, the kids heads full of rebellious music, etc. and then.. I'm finished with the c**ts Over and out, cuz ready up roll and the final paragraph is about him sittin panicking in the STD clinic. Jamie was 'born of panic attacks' he has had some as a child, and was proabably havin one there too. theres also a line about the music sounding 'Stack tone static and all of you can listen to this tune' stack tone, or alot of loud bass and static on that, its just a nuisance now as hes sittin there, panicking. this is ironic because him dancing to music with the ex (which you experience more dramatically on it) has been driving this whole trip. which hes been drinkin thorughout too, with mentions of liver and shit.. i didnt feel a need to mention that. Ike&Tina may be the title because: -there was 'abuse' behind the music (club scene), as was with the Turner's relationship. -he may consider himself 'ike', abusing his addiction(s), "Tina". In fact tina could be a metaphor for drugs "drugs are his grilfriend' Musical interpretations beyond lyrics: theres alot of hazy surges and synth /guitar phase sounds because of the song being abotu the haze of the club/booze scene. Run Run sonny and Love Love are repetitive, sorta like a train.. (btw, i love that, it feels liek youre running with him) anyway might represent how its just a long repetitive journey, weekend by weekend. |

This song is about accepting 'conformity' He says stuff like Kids are trendsetters, but not pacemakers. (pacemakers meaning they're not as great or valuable in society as they think they are) I think its sarcasm when he talks abotu being a killer and all the badass shit, because he then talks about "outgrowing the shirt" (the front he put on) It talks a bit about the rat race, marching liek soldiers, etc. Of course theres a bit about drinkin it all away, because its Jamie T, lol i LOVE this song, it talks about all the fads and the emos and the rockers and the rebels and the ghetto kids are all frontin and idiots, not pacemakers |

PLEASE READ its pretty simple when it hits you it is about selling out, as commissioning for someone does. it is off Comfort Eagle, the first album switching between an indie and a major label (comissioners) look here, theres a hidden part: '.. in C' is INC or short for Incorporated. i sound like a jackass, or not, but this makes alot of sense right now |
