A Weather – The Feather Test Lyrics 17 years ago
this is an absolutely fantastically tragic song about being far away [physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually] from someone, while the seasons pass and the world keeps revolving. this is pretty much a sum of all the things you might think to yourself when you're stoned/drunk/somehow inebriated and by yourself on a cold night. however histrionic the words are, there's a kernel of truth there that can't be denied.

beautiful description of the sickly sweet silence that drugs bring.

New Buffalo – It'll Be Alright Lyrics 18 years ago
i can definitely relate with this as well...

while i was going through a serious bout of self-injury, i would never call my friends. and i know this is the way they thought about me. they didn't know what to do for me, and they always hoped that loving me would be enough.

great song.

Annuals – Carry Around Lyrics 18 years ago
this is truly an amazing song... it's all about drugs and the pull they have on you. the speaker's relationship to another person has been ruined by his drug habit, and he doesn't know what to do about it. the speaker's friend/family/partner wants him to acknowledge the danger of his lifestyle, but the speaker knows he's way too caught up in it to desert it. he has nothing left. but he's still in love with nature, in spite of it all. he has something to hold on to.

this song reminds me of a psalm...

david would most likely sympathize.

i also like how the melody and the sound of the song are so happy-sounding, yet the subject matter is serious.

definitely the best song on the cd. annuals does a fantastic job with lyrics.

New Buffalo – Cheer Me Up Thank You Lyrics 18 years ago
i can't believe people haven't commented on this, either! it's such a lovely song... i can listen to it over and over.

i'm reminded of my friends this summer... i went through a horrible year, and they cheered me up as summer came. we acted crazy and ignored calls and danced until 2 am. i love them...

Son, Ambulance – Kaite Come True Lyrics 18 years ago
this is a damn good song. i always seem to come back to it, no matter how i'm feeling. when his voice slides up on "turn off the TV stretch out your body out as far as it goes..." it makes my heart ache.

i have a unique and probably incorrect interpretation of the song. but i'll stick to my guns. the speaker is a ghost, and he watches this girl kaite as she goes through her daily activities. he falls madly in love with her, and although his friends try to tell him that she can never be real to him, he holds on to her. he tries his best to speak to her despite the fact that she can never hear him. she's a ghost to him, but he's the real ghost. she's lonely and in love with someone she's never met and never will until she dies as well. he wants her to come true to him, to lie down and forget everything else and appear when he's awake... he's hoping that she'll die so they can be together.

morbid, i know.

My Morning Jacket – I Will Be There When You Die Lyrics 18 years ago
two men who grew up separate from each other, but there is an indelible bond. new york city and kentucky are completely different from each other, and so are joe and the speaker. each person has the same outlook on life: somewhat depressed, but expectant of a better future. life goes on, no matter if your morrows are fine or not. these two friends are inseperable. this song always reminds me of "what sarah said" by death cab for cutie. if you like this song, go listen to that one.

i listen to this song about 17 times a day. ha. especially in the fall.

Bright Eyes – I Must Belong Somewhere Lyrics 18 years ago
to me, each and every image he paints is a heartbreaking one (okay, maybe not the cauliflower). i've often seen something that just breaks my heart for no reason, or because it doesn't quite belong... like a half-inflated balloon tied to a lamp post in the rain.

it's all out of place. we're out of place a lot of the time.

the speaker wants the world to save him.

Jeff Buckley – Lilac Wine Lyrics 18 years ago
what an incredible song. definitely one that makes my heart ache... i think that everyone who has lost someone they love can identify with the poetry of the lyrics.

the speaker has obviously lost someone he loves, and the only way to regain her is to drink himself into oblivion. i'd like to think that he reaches her at the end... whether through a hallucination, a dream, or through death.

jeff buckley's incredible voice carries the meaning of the song to a whole different level.

Stateless – Bloodstream Lyrics 18 years ago
i've probably listened to this every day for a year. no lie. ha. this song is a beautiful lamentation... the speaker is in love with someone, but he's torn up by something that the other person has said. he needs the other person's touch to close "the spaces in between two minds." he's looking for affirmation that the other person is still in love with him as well, or if it's over. either way, the speaker is indelibly immersed with him/her.

what a song. i wish i could find more music by stateless.

p.s. i think that it's "words can be like knives."
