This isn't a complicated one to figure out. It could be applied to so many different aspects of one's life...but it's about coming back from your lowest point, renewed and better than ever, ready to take control of your life and succeed. I believe that it was written to describe a guy who was dumped by a woman that he put up on a pedestal and idolized. He briefly got her to become involved with him, but then she decided to end it with some bitter words that he took to heart and foolishly believed to be true. Finally, he realized life went on without her, and that he could do better than her and is now primed and ready to make his life better without her.
However, it is generically written and can be applied to situations other than romantic ones. Actually, it could be used to describe any situation involving a rejection of any kind that brings a person down but finds the strength to move on and emerge stronger. |

Heard this the first time watching a movie called Laurel Canyon as it was in the opening credits. Absolutely loved it...odd but sweet. I think it's just an unusual way to describe one that a guy is infatuated with |

I think it's a song about a person who doesn't like the way the world is from their perspective, and cries out for change. Of course, one has to keep in mind that songs like these are almost always from the perspective of an uneducated person (you don't find many musicians or actors that have even a so much as a bachelor's degree) with very sophomoric and misdirected ideals. These kinds of songs appeal to kids who admire rebellion without truly understanding what they are rebelling against or even if they are right. But so what, it's a fun song that's easy to listen to. |
