It's been confirmed to be about exactly what you guys said - in interviews with the band from the metal box tour period - they didn't get into a lot of detail, just that it was about "a rape during which pop songs were playing on the radio." |

It's about an IRA gunamn who is "Carreering" in London. Jah Wobble explained this in an interview given when PIL toured on Metal Box. He said that every song on Metal Box is about people/a person. |

I was at a show once, it was the first time I saw Fugazi, it was 1989 I believe - Ian introduced the song saying it was inspired by a friend of his (for some reason I think it was a woman who works at Dischord) who basically was wondering what she couldn't walk down the street without guys accosting her (either literally or figurative I guess)...so yes, it's about objectification.....The thing is though, that the answer to the question, is" "because sex is instinct." |
