the inevitable evolution that every artist must face has been shown in full light with the white album, and no other song displays a piece of AV's musical change with such personal imagery as "Dear God." this album is definitely going to grow on the ears of long-time fans at a slow rate but, i have a feeling, if we look back ten years from now, it will be credited with returning an artistic, un-manufactured approach to mainstream rock. |

this song is a response to record executives who, because of the Nirvana tag on Dave, tried to manipulate him towards a pop-rock career. it's also a check on the evolving mainstream post-grunge music scene around the time this album was released (1995), as many artists were being snapped up by record companies and posed as Seattle-type material. |
