Wow so many alternative interpretations here... I would have agreed with MoonlightOrchid, but I'll say what I thought myself too.. I thought that Alejandro was a guy who hurt her, "hot like Mexico" - probably a latin dude. Now she seems to have a thing for latin men (rejoice :D), but rejects them one after another, a way to make her feel better... or revenge. Even though she still seems hung up on Alejandro. Maybe fantasizes about turning him down or breaking up with him ("..but I just can't be with you like this anymore", "Don't call my name", "don't bother me") like she does with them. She hides true love in her pockets, she's not broken, just a baby... could mean that in fact, insecurity is the real reason for her behaviour. I just read that Steven Klein (director of the clip) says the clip is about 'the pain of living without your true love.' ...but I guess it could all be more than that... lol. |

i am going to totally agree with licdamic, and add: if you've been let down by love, you'll think it's fateful that you 'll "party for a living", not sharing any emotion, going just for the sexual pleasure (just for the drama of it, after finding out how love truly hurts)... but if you don't give your whole self, if you don't open up, you won't feel loved. this is how i understand it, just can't rephrase it any better atm... :) |

To me, it is about a woman who has been trying to act independent, not eager to play the role of the unprotected female. She has been hurt in the past and doesn't trust anyone. So there is this man who would like something more with her. i'd like to believe that the reason for "apologies" isn't he's cheated, but the fact that he has to be away. you just can't have the nerve to ask someone to trust you when you've already made a mistake. anyway, in my opinion, the point of this song is that people can always be tempted to make mistakes, but whether they will or not depends on how strong their feelings are for the other. it's a nice song but i hope his words go both ways -she has the right to mistakes too, right? i just like things to be fair people. lol |

Hi, Me too, I believe it's about leaving behind any situation although it could have been written about the last drummer. When he says "Dream", I think he means "Dream on", talking to someone who's been lying or trying to sabotage him. I don't know much of their history, I only listen to their songs. If they had a bad ending with the previous drummer maybe that is why he says he's not feeling bad for it. Lyrically it could've been better, and better adjusted to the music in my humble opinion. I wouldn't have selected it as a title track, but I am now starting to believe the band wanted to get a certain message across so they put it there... |

Yea it's about sex without feelings, but I'd say it something else (e.g. a heartbreak) brought him to this "egotistic" state of mind. And I think he's written better. It's like they've gone commercial. "c'mon can you feel it" doesn't sound to me like them. But heyz, I always <3 the pumpkins, :) respect. |

I shiver every time he says "I'm in touch with you" The way I see it, there is a distance between or obstacles he's eager -or feels like his emotions give him no other choice- to cross, to reach his love. It's amazing how the words make me picture it, when he says "every turn is torture thought" -like he loses he sleep, and tosses and turns every night thinking of her and suffering from the heartache ("every kicking of the drum"). It seems like for some reason they can't be together so what's enough for him is to keep her in his life, maybe as a friend ("let's fill these hours and kill desire"). Maybe sometimes he is tempted to give in to desire ("let's kill these hours and fill desire") but then thinks that "it's enough for now, we're in touch". He is probably willing to take risks to reach her ("setting sail...") but on the other hand, he 's not so optimistic about it ("...to get wrecked, of course"). He loses himself but knows where he has to get. And anyway the conclusion is that there is only one way for him, everything he does, he does for his love. So he isn't lost although he often feels like he is. He'll play all his cards until there's no hope left. |
