| Al Stewart – Year Of The Cat Lyrics

This song has a very haunting melody and is very compelling. I read that it's about heroin addiction.
The Year of the Cat in Astrology is the year before the Year of the Dragon, and "chasing the Dragon" is a
slang term for heroin addiction. The last verses of the song mean that the guy is hooked - "but for now
you're gonna stay". I think alot of 60s and 70s songs were really about drugs, but of course,
they were disguised well with cryptic lyrics, and that's exactly what this song is - very cryptic. It's a
truly amazing song and one that stays with you and really makes you think. |

| Madonna – 4 Minutes Lyrics

oh I thought they were saying "we only got 4 minutes to say the word", but it's "save the world". Oh well, I still don't get it. I think this is probably Madonna's worst song to date. You can barely even hear her...she's basically just singing backup for JT and is very much in the background. The whole chorus is irritating and is like nails on a blackboard. Madonna had always been one to stand out from the crowd with music that was fresh, yet different. It's too bad she's now joined the ranks of Mariah and Janet with music that's bland and sounds like everything else. It's almost like their trying to hide their real voices for fear no one will buy their records because they're too old. |

| Michael Jackson – Beat It Lyrics

I never quite understood if this song was about backing down from a fight, or fighting when it's necessary to fight? Is it about turning the other cheek? the lyrics say "it doesn't matter who's wrong or right, just beat it", meaning scram?? |

| Panic! at the Disco – Nine In The Afternoon Lyrics

I think the "Nine" is short for "Sixty-Nine" and they cleverly disguised the title to avoid being too sexually explicit. It's impossible for the actual time to ever be Nine in the afternoon, but it's possible to do 69 in the afternoon, and the lyrics are referring to "back in the room where it all began" and he makes reference to her as "you're good cause you can so you do". So that's my take on the meaning of this song, it's about a "nooner". or is my mind just in the gutter?? |

This is a great tune, but I often wonder whether he is singing about the choice between going 'gay' or going 'straight'. He's obviously at some crossroads in his life between getting married or staying single, but I think he's deciding on whether to come out of the closet or not. |

| Daughtry – Over You Lyrics

I'm glad to see that there are still some talented musicians out there these days, and Chris Daughtry is one of the few. This is really good music and will have staying power unlike most of the pop music shit that's out there. Ironically, the alumni of American Idol are among the most talented musicians and singers that are out there today. Maybe the other artists should learn something from them. |

I agree with sourglory and cussler7 above. This song epitomizes what is wrong with the pop music scene today....an explicit, sleazy song about sex that should be banished from the airwaves. Not only are the lyrics bad, but it has no tune. This is just one example of the kind of shit that teenagers are forced to listen to and buy these days. Man, I'm glad I grew up in the 70's and 80's when music was well-written and musicians had talent. It's too bad that teenagers today will have shitty songs like this to look back on in 20 years to remind them of their youth. |

| Maureen Mcgovern – The Morning After Lyrics

This is a song about hope and having the strength and perserverance to get through a trying time or an obstacle (such as drug addiction, a break-up, pretty much anything tragic!). A great song -- optimistic and full of hope. |

| Christina Milian – Dip It Low Lyrics

Obviously this song is about oral sex. I have nothing against that, but please...it doesn't belong in pop music for all kids to hear. That is what's wrong with the pop music scene today. Artists and record companies release songs with that shock factor because kids will think it's funny and cool and will buy it. And this song is really sleazy and the singer sounds like a porn star. Whatever happened to good old fashioned values and more importantly, talent in the music business. It's a shame to see how far we've fallen over the last 20-30 years. Musicians back then had talent, but today, it's all about sex, shock appeal, and money...disgusting. I'm glad I grew up in the 70's and 80's. |

| Eagles – Hotel California Lyrics

Obviously, songs can take on many different meanings and can mean anything you want them to. "Hotel California" is a complex song and in my opinion, one of the best songs ever written. For me, the song is about the allure of Southern California, but in kind of a cynical way. For anyone who's ever lived in or visited Southern California, it is a paradise. The Hotel Califonia refers to the state itself. It is vast, hence the line "plenty of room at the hotel california", it is beautiful, hence the line "such a lovely place", yet has a reputation for being superficial, hence the line "such a lovely face". Once you're bitten by that Southern California bug, you'll never want to leave, hence the line "we're all just prisoners here of our own device". And when you do leave, you'll always want to return and it will always stay with you, hence the line "you can checkout anytime you like but you can never leave". |
