I'm with Nanshinka here. I think they are forced to seperate because one of them moves away.
Hence the car going around the bend. And him forcing a smile leads me to believe that one of them is leaving on good terms, or at least while the relationship is still in tact. Think about it, if they had just broken up when she leaves, would he be forcing a smile?
And the line "curiosity becomes a heavy load" hints towards jealousy. Him wondering where she is, who she's with. He starts becoming overly suspicious, acting cold. It eventually takes it's toll and he fucks up and cheats because of it. The last line, her being so angry, "do me a favor and stop flattering yourself" is what makes me think that he ends up cheating.

I agree it's one of their best. I think people don't enjoy it very much because it's one that grows on you as opposed to Nobody Move which is catchy the first time around. Anywho, I think the song is pretty self-explanatory. Basically, culture and society being all about competitiveness and who is better, who will win. "I didn't like the look that you wore". I could also be way off as well, which would not be strange considering I take songs and twist them around until I find a relateable and logical meaning. =p |

I love this song. I love it more than I could possibly ever describe. I could use every fucking positive adjective in, not only the English, but French/Spanish/Chinese language and still not come close to describing my love for this song. I can't listen to Joy Division without sobbing, especially during this song. I can't explain it, they aren't even my favorite band nor do I feel a really special connection with the band/music. I mean I'm a big fan, of course...but nothing over the top, I'm more of a The Cure girl. But when I hear anything of theirs...even the starting riffs or whatever, I get choked up. A testament to something special, I guess. It invokes unexplainable emotions. |

I just read the incest thing. Oh man, the irony. *oooofff*. I doubt it's about incest though, I'm with the Nathan theory. I recall Caleb saying there was a song on the album about each member. I'm pretty sure "Soft" was written for Caleb, "Razz" was for Jared and I'm afraid I can't remember the other two. It makes sense "Pistol of Fire" is about Nathan, and I've gone blank on which one is about Mathew....but yea. |

I HATED this song the first time I heard it. I remember thinking "this album would be amazing if it weren't for this song". Then my CD player went crap on me and I couldn't skip this song. It grew on me at a crazy rate. One of my favorite Kings of Leon songs in general now. My little brother and I sing along to it in the car if I'm driving him somewhere. It's pretty hilarious seeing as he's 7. |

The general idea here is one I share. I believe it was written about virginity, but one can take that and replace it with any major thing in their lives they were forced to give up or they've lost. Really nice song for a long drive. Contemplative but not over the top. |

Ok, now my explanation of this song will sound sort of odd and it has a very high possibility of being misunderstood. Consider yourself forewarned.
I think this is the perfect song to fall asleep to. I have severe insomnia, I'm talking days at a time without sleep...yet when I'm in a good place, this song can knock me out. It's just neutral really. Peaceful and clean on the ears, interesting lyrics but nothing to contemplative so my mind doesn't race to keep up. It's nice. |

I should also add something. Despite it being a break up song, I certainly don't relate to it in that sense. To be honest the anger he feels for his significant other in this song is aimed at myself/conflicted emotion when hearing this song. I doubt/hope I'm not the only one who relates to it in this way? |

I love this song. So incredibly much. I wouldn't change a single thing. The way it starts, sort of contemplative...and then slowly;the music, the lyrics, the emotion behind his voice...it all builds up. The sense of hopelessness, of despair, it's so evident not only in the lyrics but in his voice. Oh god, his voice. My favorite song, without a shadow of a doubt. Shocking, I know. |
