I definately think you're onto something here. Alcohol seems more likely than drugs due to the johnny walker mention. :) This is my current favourite on the album too. |

Meaning-wise, are the "Kings Of Medicine" drug dealers? Or is that just my thinking? If so, then the song could be about a reliance on alcohol drugs ruining your life ("ruined all our plans") but in the end they stop making you feel good ("lost their power"). The end of the song seems a bit more optimistic as people have pointed out in reference to the trumpets, so it may be about ending an addiction and moving on but the sound still has undertones of betrayal and pessimism, perhaps with respect to the idea of not knowing how to live without these substances ("I wouldn't know where to begin"). I don't know if anyone else thinks of it this way, but whatever :) |

| Placebo – Come Undone Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song seems so simple that it makes it interesting. As we know, Brian's lyrics are rarely trivial or simple, so it makes me think there must be more to it. But in saying that - I can't really find anything more than the surface song. Perhaps that's why it's hidden so deep in the album (12th song I believe). I don't know, his voice is amazing in this one and the music is not bad at all. But it seems to be lacking SOMETHING. | |
| Placebo – Devil In The Details Lyrics | 16 years ago |

This song is brilliant. I'm not sure about the meaning but here are my thoughts. I think the song is about drugs, or fighting the addiction to them in particular. "the devil in the details" is basically a metaphor for an addiction - Brian is sick of trying to quit the drugs so he's giving in to "the devil". "fixing up to take a bite" is likely a reference to preparing to take a hit, likewise for "im gonna dance with him tonight". Anyway, the rest is pretty self-explanatory if the lyrics are read in this way. What does everyone else think? |

I hated this song on first listening. Okay, not hated, that's a bit extreme - but I just didn't really like it. Now? I love it. It's catchy, it's dark enough to please me and the music is beautiful. Meaning-wise? The first verse is clearly a reflection of his life (as astarte stated). The second verse seems more like conformity and Brian going off and doing his own thing - fuck the consequences. "Open prison" could be in reference to the rules or expectations of morality and society. He accepts that he is different to what is considered acceptable as he tries to "break free" from the social expectations imposed on him. "Eradicate the schism" - well schism is kind of like a rift or segregation (I think) so maybe he is alluding to the obvious shunning that non-conformists are subject to. "No-one can take it away from me And no-one can tear it apart" Pretty straight forward if we're reading this literally; he wont change who he is for other people. And the "heart that hurts..." may be reference to the fact that despise being unusual he is still a human being and realises that inside we all have similar emotions, etc. Anyway, that's my take. Feel free to disagree! |

I think the first line sounds more like: "You are the birth and you are waste" I love this. Not my favourite - but a good song. I didn't like the spanish in the beginning but I quite like it now. |

| Sadly I have not heard this song yet, but the lyrics seem very morbid... | |
| Placebo – For What It's Worth Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Now that I've calmed down from the complete awesomeness of this song - I've had a chance to actually think about what the lyrics mean to me. Here's my interpretation (I've not heard one from Brian yet); For me, this song is about trying to please those around at the expense of your own happiness. It seems that Brian is doing his best to make everyone around him happy (his family, his lovers, his friends) but in the end he looses it all anyway because he is not okay. Ultimately nobody cares for anyone more than they care for themselves ("No one cares when you're down in the gutter") so trying to please others was pointless if nobody is going to make him happy in return. I don't know if what I said makes sense - it made sense in my mind. Anyway, I guess because that interpretation hits close to home, then that's how I see it. |

Wow. That's all I can say. I thought Battle for the sun was okay and the repition grew on me. But this song is simply amazing. And Brian's hair is so long - it looks good though!!!!! I love the music in this one, it changes often enough to not be boring; not that placebo is ever boring. I'm not making any sense. Anyway, Stefan's hair looks so cute cut like that. I love it, and I love the song of course XDD it's made my day. |

I was expecting them to sound pretty different with the new drummer (Steve Forrest) but, thankfully, they have the same sound :) It's good to hear Brian's voice singing some new lyrics again too!! YAY! Anyway, I just downloaded it and aam on my second listening - thanks for putting up the lyrics syko brat. I agree that the lyrics are nothing special, the repetition isn't really doing it for me. Meaning-wise.. I haven't really thought much about it yet, still just enjoying the sound. Literally, it sounds like a screwed up, destructive relationship that Brian is trying to get out of and sees the light at the end of the tunnel as his goal (battling for the sun). Also it could be drugs (as the Placebo theme seems to center on), the addiction weighing him down (black and heavy weight) and him trying to get clean (battling for the sun). Anyway, that's just my thoughts - now someone smart should disect it :) I am curious about "Dream brother, my killer, my lover" any insight? |

| Placebo – I Do Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think it sounds more like: "I'll kick back as men flirt with you, To jealousy, I'll stay IMMUNE" Immune would make sense because if they were married (i.e. said "I do") then he wouldn't be worried about other men flirting with her because they've vowed to stay faithful. Abused would also make sense as after marrying he would feel even more protective over her and therefore, be abused by the jealousy when other men flirt with her. Perhaps I am hearing it wrong because that's what I've always thought it was, I hear what I want to hear. Both words seem to fit well. |

I always assumed it was mocking teenagers who blame their problems (or imagined problems) on anyone but themselves. I thought the third line was: Borderline and schizo Borderline being another personality disorder similar to Bipolar Disorder. After reading this I listened more closely and I suppose Brian does say Borderlining schizo.. not that it changes the song meaning at all. |
