I DON'T think this song is about drugs, it's about music and society. I think he feels that he is an outcast, that everyone acts in a certain way and he is different. He's "living through the sound of the dead," through music. It's 1969 in his head - a different time, and probably the music from 1969 inspires him. It a refuge for him, a place he can go to figure himself out (his "soul"). And yes, drugs help him too. But I think the last verse sums it up: Here we go There I stand I'm a seed Of a man... He doesn't know how to act like everyone else does, he's raw and innocent, and while everyone else moves forward, he stands alone. That's my interpration, and to me it is such a relatable song. I hope I die before the Vines do, LOL. |
