I think the beauty of this song is the fact so many people with so many different situations can relate to the lyrics. Personally I have a VERY different meaning than other people have mentioned here... Before I share my interpretation of the song I would just like to comment on myztikalspyril, you say that she doesn't believe in heaven/hell - If you are refering to the song 'Dear God' please do your research...she didn't write that song! She wrote this one. The opeing lines are the most powerfull..'heaven bent to take my hand'... it is not only God or angels taking her hand, but the ENTIRE heaven...she has found heaven to be her only refuge...in ANY situation. |

People, you can't say someone has issues from just singing a song!!!! First of all, I am a Cristian, and yes the first time I listened to this song, I was SHOCKED! However, I listened to it again and the more I did the more I understood and appreciated the song. It is clear that the writer had a huge emotion struggle, because it is filled with emotive language. I just have to say from a musical point of view, this song is amazing!! The intrigue in this song is outstanding... But this song plays a lot with irony...As someone mentioned above...just read it from an objective angle and you'll see it. It says "dear God, I don't believe in you..." clearly if you don't believe in someone your not going to talk to them! Some of the issues rissen is true, or at least I believe in some of them. "Your name is on a lot of quotes in this book,Us crazy humans wrote it, you should take a look" I believe that the bible is a guidebook, but you should be careful, because the bible was written by HUMANS!!! And it wa passed on from generation to generation, in times were only the wealthy and powerful were literate, thus they could have EASILY changed some of the things, and added and removed some things in the bible to promote their own ideology... As I said I'm a Christian, and I believe that God made everything, but think about it for just a second, it is possible for the human race to create someone like God from their imagination and for their emotional well being (but I don't think it is how it happened) but when someone is in doubt of their faith, they could come to this conclusion. The one part I DON'T like is "That Father, Son and Holy Ghost Is just somebody's unholy hoax" because in Christian believe, sin against the holy ghost can't be forgiven!!!! So if you renounce the holy ghost you can't be forgiven for doing so! But in this text they do not do that explisitly, it is however implied because they say that it is an unholy hoax... People should just realise that this song is about a person whom has trugglings with their faith due to the bad times we are living in (and they should do more research - coz God said that [in revalations] that the world will become a terible place to live in - and that is a sign that his coming is near.) But still, this is how the person felt, and most of the things can be justified - i believe that Christians should not be so narrow minded - just because we walk the narrow way doesn't mean we should be narrow people... |
