| Joanna Newsom – Baby Birch Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I feel that the stanza "Do you remember staring up at the stars So far away in their bulletproof cars heard the rushing, slow intake Of the dark, dark water And the engine breaks" could possibly be her recollection of the night that the baby was conceived? Something about it seems very personal, asking him specifically "do you remember?" as if this is a pivotal moment in her story. | |

I don't know how this song doesn't have any comments. It's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. The part that kills me is "I will not find another of your kind, I'll hold this true. I will not be a husband let set free, I said I do." Brilliant and devastating. |

I think it's really neat to think about the idea of saying goodbye to the ground and jumping up into the air, taking flight in a way. I see what you mean about this being the end of brand new since it has been about ten years, but I like to think that they're not talking about a death but more of jumping and taking flight. |

I'm willing to bet money that this is a Vin song. It's totally more his style than Jesse's. But yes, it does sound more like Modest Mouse, but whatever, I like it a lot. |

| Carissa's Wierd – A New Holiday (November 16th) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
well it obviously has something to do with ignorant piece of shit, "On bended knee Will you marry me And on November 16 Everything was buried down " I think that this was the day that they got engaged, and therefore he declared her "her own holiday" and in the end it didn't work out. It's on songs about leaving which all deal with some sort of separation. I think it's just about her leaving him after they were engaged "taking slow dancing lessons" and "crooked legs" walking all refer to wedding things, like the first dance and walking down the isle. |

"You file out your reception seating While i sing sing sing these ten lords still leaping the mark on your breast from your baby, teething. Well, give him my name if he is needing." I think this is about someone he used to love having a baby, because he says "You file out your reception seating" like thats what she's been doing, whiles hes "sing, sing, sing" ing. Then "the mark on your breast from your baby, teething" says that she has a baby now, and "I'll give him my name if he is needing" to me means that the father is not good enough for her, and that if she wants him, he wants her too and if the baby needs a father, he is there. Thats why it would have his name, his last name. Thoughts? |

the seven is probably because the little girl was seven when she died. But here's another way to look at it. I've always though that the song switches at the end, and "I can dish it out, but I can't take it" has a whole other meaning. I think it's about loving someone who doesn't love you back, and watching them be with other people. and he says "seven loves you so much, do me a favor baby don't reply, cos I can dish it out, but I can't take it." I see it like he is asking, over and over how her relationships are going, and though he can dish it out, he can't stand to know the answer. Just the way I see it. |
