I have to agree with Ixes. This is most likely about a relationship that has ended. The specific reference to "You used to be like my twin and all thats been was it all for nothing?" That's a reference to the two individuals past after they ahve broken up, most likely after a long relationship - or perhaps a divorce. When he says, are you stronger when you are with HIM -- him can just refer to the new boyfriend. And when they say "Placed him above us all" --> It could be referring to how he is higher than him now even though he's the new boyfriend. It could also be about how shes placing the new boyfriend above all her family and all her friends. That's why he says Our love, let it pass, because he'll eventually get over her but he has to get this off his chest. "What is this coming to i am unwilling to go" - he's still not over her and the final lines refer to how she has lost someone so great and that he has lost, so in reality, at the end of a relationship -- no one wins. |

This song, to me, is basically about a man going back to an ex-grilfriend and asking her if she wishes to get back with him on certain conditions. Hence the Line "Rumours of re-election started to fly" because the possibility of her being 're-elected' back onto his mind was very possible. It's my funeral today My funeral today I laid it down Underneath the sound It's my principal concern My principal concern is what you say But I wanted it this way I think that is referring to how he always had the best intentions for her and always put things aside for her concern hence funeral 'under the sound' because he was emotionally withering without her. You're more than welcome to look around Consult your checklist, go underground I think that line is a reference to the popular notion that some people make checklists of the good and bad stuff about their spouses and thats why he's saying she can do whatever is necessary as long as he can get a final answer. He also mentions how he is not gonna stick around any longer because this is the last chance and since he has nothing else to loose he can tell her exactly what went wrong and what could be done about it. He basically leaves her a message saying a lot of this and tells her to call him "drop a line". And we're left with the notion that he is waiting for a final answer. |

He does seem very depressed. However, as User tonightwefly states, he talks about a 'You' in the song. A lot of people would think he's talking about someone else. My first thought was maybe a loved one of some sort: He states, "But don't be scared, I found a good job and I go to work every day on my old bicycle you loved." and "But don't worry I often go to dinners and parties with some old friends who care for me, take me back home and stay." However, he also states that he has a Monochrome (meaning black and white or grayscale) life, house, and states how everything in life is just overall very gray scale. So this would raise the question of why he's alone? I think he's talking to either an ex-lover of some sort or maybe he's gone through a divorce and is referring to his daughter that's in the ex-wifes custody? - "bicycle you loved". He could also be talking about his mother who is worried about him and how he's getting on with his life when he lives alone and has so few friends. Really, this song is open to many interpretations :) |

| Mute Math – You Are Mine Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I've never really thought about this song as pertaining to God. I always pictured them talking about a girl. Mainly because of this line "They Hold high their prized posession" --> You cannot say that you 'possess' god and to say such a thing would be implying you are possessing him as an IDOL and that would be blasphemous. That's why I did not assume it was god, but it could very well be. Another example: "Objects" of affects --> God is not an 'object' that would also be saying that he is an idol of some sort. I really did think this song is about a Girl, especially for this reason: At around Minute 4:34 when he says they hold high their prized possession he dies down on posession realizing that he does not have it making me think that he is talking about a girl that he cannot go close to but would really like to. P.S: The line "You are Mine" refers to the verses above, hence if anyone wants to sing this to a girl, be careful cause they might think you are stating that they are 'yours' and might get offended :P |
