I see two meanings top this song, the Dawn of the Dead one that most of you have been talking about, and the one I thought of the first few times I heard it. The feeling I got when I first heard this song (before I saw Dawn of the Dead) was that this boy has gone crazy and wants to get him and his girlfriend out of the world that's become more like a hell. ('there's no room in this hell/there's no room in the next'.) So he kills them both, thinking that it'll be better if they were dead - it's hard, because he's remembering all the times they shared ('And our memories defeat us/And I'll end this direst') and she's begging him not to kill her ('and in saying you loved me/made things harder at best' and 'should I be shocked now/By the last thing you said'). But eventually he does it. ('But does anyone notice? There's a corpse in this bed.) |
