I think this song is about Billy's disdain for our country under GW's command. I think he's ashamed of our country's reputation under Bush....once a great country in the world's eyes, now...not so much. The lines "As they go, we can say we know, but what do we know....referring to the sending of troops to fight the Iraqi war without the complete truth..... |

I think this song has another meaning/aspect that no one else has touched upon. If you listen closely, there are numerous religious references. The line in the song where he mentions the sub and then says you gonna need one until he(god) replies...referencing the flood that ended the world the first time around. The line where he says "A match made in heaven sets the fires in hell" can be a reference to Satan.....who was an angel, created in heaven but now rules hell. The Holy Grail is mentioned also. The girl he references in the song could also have a dual identity..could be a real person and also fame/money...just my thoughts. |
