Beach House – Wishes Lyrics 12 years ago
also just want to say the reason the death thing really jumped out at me was this last line "on that hill, forever still." even if the rest of my theory is totally garbage that part SCREAMS death.

Beach House – Wishes Lyrics 12 years ago
My uninformed interpretation: The song has to do with a death and the grieving process. Maybe some guilt over not grieving as much as you feel you're obliged to, or maybe being in such shock that you can't seem to behave as you ought to. The wishes could be wishing the person didn't die, or wishing you could feel the pain you know is coming.

The roses on the lawn
Don't know which side you're on

(Roses are indifferent to you. Whether you're alive or dead, or how you feel inside)

In a daze it will change

(I read this as "[You're] in a daze [but] [that] will change" i.e. the shock that someone has died will disappear and you will leave the daze and feel the grief)

Wishes on a wheel
Wishes on a wheel

The voices in the hall
Will carry on their talking
Carry weight you can't take

(This strikes me as a grown-up conversation taking place just out of earshot for a youth. Weight you can't take might be the death, which would be supported in a later line...)

Wishes on a wheel
Is it even real?

(Is that person really dead?)

The contact that you make
The moment when a memory aches
Who can tell?
You do it well

(Grief finally sets in, but you cannot express it "properly")

Wishes on a wheel
How's it supposed to feel?

(confusion over why the loss isn't felt the way it's "supposed" to be felt)

One in your life
It happens once and rarely twice
One in your life
It happens once and rarely twice

(this type of disarming shock from death only hits you once? 'm not sure about this part.)

The roses on the lawn
Won't know which side you're on
On that hill
Forever still

(The roses don't know you're in a grave, why have them at a funeral?)

Wishes on a wheel
How's it supposed to feel?

Tilly and the Wall – Blood Flower Lyrics 15 years ago
I wish the band members would come back on here and comment on their newer albums.

Just a shot in the dark here, but I believe a blood flower is actually alluding to bleeding.

I happen to be an ex-heroin addict and when you draw blood into the syringe from your vein, some people call that a 'crimson orchid' because of the way the blood appears in the barrel of the syringe.

Maybe because of my own life experience it's just easy to hear certain things, but in that context "i buried my blood years ago to encourage the vine; i waited for something to grow and flourish with time." could mean the songwriter stopped getting high to give him/herself a chance to live a decent life.

Again in that context; "Every day a little more unsettled, you are starting to understand
You're sleeping with the lights on, with no one to hold your hand."

On heroin you tend to go through sort of a honeymoon period where you don't realize it's got it's grips in you, until you understand. Also, you tend to 'sleep' with lights on because the drug makes you nod out, or become semiconscious/unconscious.... AND there's no one to hold your hand because you become someone nobody wants to be around.

just my interpretation. tilly tends to be a little bit too creative for me to keep up with so I could be way off track.

I used to inject heroin and I can tell you that the relationship he has with dope is pretty much what most junkies feel. My friend and I used to listen to the crack rock steady seven on the way to and from the spots.

to be tha wrong
that fucks the right

I think that is about right-wing political figures, if not it would be completely out of character when compared to everything the crack rock steady seven have ever recorded. They definately consider those in power evil and while they don't pretend to be saints I think its clear who they think is morally superior.

when I used drugs this was definately something I identified with. Now though I suppose in sobriety I have joined the global money-market race. At least I am making money because the US dollar continues to weaken...

Tom Waits – Way Down in the Hole Lyrics 18 years ago
I'm pretty sure the season four theme was performed by some Baltimore locals. I am anxious to see who they use for season five. I'd be shocked if they broke tradition and used a different theme. As long as they don't go for some kind of bmore hip hop angle I'm sure it will be ok.

as far as the lyrics themselves are concerned, I interpret them as having to do with struggling with alcoholism.

Adam Green – Novotel Lyrics 18 years ago
this song is about smoking crack in hotel rooms.

the faces blowing a fuse is talking about hitting crack

adam green uses the alleyway as a reference to purchasing drugs over and over on jacket full of danger.

he's talking about females begging him for hits of crack. he feeds them 'facts' to be left 'alone'

the rest of the song is about the paranoia one gets after smoking crack
