| Iron & Wine – Teeth in the Grass Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
in a way it's what everyone has said, i believe. teeth in the grass means that when you're dead, there are teeth in the grass, in the ground, because you have decomposed. to me this means that when you die, you die.. and that's it. it's saying that if we as humans stop worrying about death and what comes after, we could live beautifully the way described in the verses. 'when there are teeth in the grass' means 'when we understand that there are only teeth in the grass when we die, no afterlife or anything' |

| Four Tet – No More Mosquitoes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
i totally disagree with most of you - this is one of my favourite four tet songs. to me, because it sounds like the child has an accent, i always think of africa, and the malaria carrying mosquitoes that are wreaking havoc on the population. having a child sing it is brilliant - he's singing about hope. a world without mosquitoes. |

| Tunng – code breaker Lyrics | 17 years ago |

well, pivotandsway, that's pretty ridiculous considering watson's mentioned in this song for helping to discover the double helix. yes he's racist, but it doesn't change the science he discovered. i agree with hertealeaves, this definitely a love song. And quantum theorists tell me They've never seen the likes of your radar such a great line. science can't see him as deeply as his code-breaking love. |

| The Decemberists – The Perfect Crime #2 Lyrics | 18 years ago |

i really don't think this song is about jfk at all. what i *do* think, every time i hear the song, is that he's not singing 'the perfect, the perfect, the perfect.. etc' but that in fact he's singing "the pooping, the pooping, the pooping, the pooping" and that makes me giggle so much i usually skip it, too. i ilke the song, but the repetition of that line just drives me nuts. if i hear pooping or perfect, it still annoys me |

| The Decemberists – The Island: Come and See; The Landlord's Daughter; You'll Not Feel the Drowning Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
To me it goes like this: the island: an approaching storm, and basically what happens to the ship. "there's a harbour lost within the reeds/a jetty caught in overhanging trees" the ship crashed into the shore of this island, and it's all smashed up and all over the place "no bootmark here or fingerprint" no one survived then the landlord's daughter is a sailor on the ship, the captain maybe, someone's regrets on what they did in life. sort of a last confession of a great sin. and "you'll not feel the drowning" is the captain telling the sailors to sleep so they won't feel the drowning. |

i actually don't think it's about a specific war or time-period at all. i think this is a general hope for all of humanity to find a place where there are no wars, no sounds of bombs. "by land, by sea, by dirigible" as someone said, he does really like the word dirigible, but i think that means it doesn't matter how, any way possible we will leave this conflict. also, after a major nuclear war type scenario, it would make sense to use older technology, anything you could find. "we'll leave our tracks untraceable" meaning we'll have no connection with those who cause and are a part of war. |

| Camera Obscura – Come Back Margaret Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
sarahluvsu182 - i think the "mild crush" is actually a lot more intense. i think the narrator is in love with margaret. and she's married to a man and they all sleep together ("i'd like to explore you") but the only way she can act on it, to her, is because she's married to the man. ("with love for him i disguise / despise"). but really, she wants to run away with margaret: "in dreams i try to take you far away" and maybe margaret's in love with the man? "you never stay" |
