i submit that descartes idea is fatally flawed in a crucial area. "dubito, ergo cogito, ergo sum" can never go beyond proof of one's own existince.
descartes himself had to turn to the belief in a benevolent God in order to believe in the existence of anything beyond his own thought. to do that he essentially abandoned his own philosophy, because God can be doubted, therefore cannot be trusted. in fact, to take this to its natural conclusion, nothing can be trusted, not even science.
if you follow descartes, nothing beyond thought can be proven, so to believe in anything at all takes faith. since you cannot use faith disprove the concept of faith, descartes cannot disprove anything. |

try plugging the church in as the city in question. Christians and non-Christians both should find that acceptable. i think we all think the church needs to be burned in one way or another. |

and you Christians, oculd the quiet cull have something to do with the thinning of your ranks because you don't stand up and say 'I believe in on absolute truth'? your religion doesn't work if other people can be right also - so you can respect people and love people, but you can't just let it slide and say 'hey, you believe what you want and thats cool too.' |

The problem with a song by a Christian is that Christians are, by definition, narrow. Instead of writing songs that could mean anything, Dustin writes songs that do mean something. We can’t help but be who we are. So, if Dustin is an artist that is Christian, then Dustin writes songs from a Christian perspective. Its just like Christians write posts from a Christian perspective, atheists write from an atheistic perspective, and hateful people write posts that are rude and ignorant. To say Dustin isn’t just talking to Christians is true – neither was Jesus. To say that he isn’t trying to share his world view is not true – of course he is. Take Blind Guardian and their song ‘Turn the Page’ – I’m not a Wiccan, but it is clear to me that the song is about renewal from a Wiccan perspective. I’m not going to try to take that meaning out of it or give the song a Christian twist – it doesn’t have one. Why do I need to make Dustin hate God, or leave God out of his songs? It can’t be done. Thrice writes songs with one meaning that may have many applications, not songs with many meanings and unlimited applications. |

the natural conclusion of those who follow the father of modern thought must be emptiness and aloneness. if i think, therefore i am; then all reality resides in my own head. i am god yet i am dead, i am everything, yet i am alone. anything i have to say is open to any interpretation available, after my words leave me they are left to drift through an internet ocean with no absolutes. my words become nothing, then they become your words, and in an age without definition my words may mean anything. i do not think, therefore i am, i think, because i am. one might say because of I Am.
