Brand New – In a Jar Lyrics 16 years ago
I think the "?" sections say this:

Someone save me cause I
Can't keep traveling alone
Come with me to hideout
When there's nowhere that is safe tonight.

Brand New – Bought a Bride Lyrics 16 years ago
This might be a big stretch but it is something that struck me. When looking at scripture of the Bible, God talks of the church being the bride of Christ. Christ is the head, and the church is the body. Also, we see that Christ purchased the church (the bride) with His own blood. Hence, "Bought A Bride." Here are the scriptures:

"For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word. That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish." - Ephesians 5:23-27

"Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood." - Acts 20:28

"And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband." - Revelation 21:2

"And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife." - Revelation 21:9

Any thoughts to this or am I just thinking too much?

All That Remains – Indictment Lyrics 18 years ago
Ok...the song to me is about how people have their own gods they worship, whether it be a material, a famous person, or money. Notice how god is not capitalized, which means Phil is not talking about the one and only God. Phil is a Christian and believes in God. This song isn't saying that God is unholy...it is saying that so many people worship things in this world that are unholy and not God.

I am almost 100% sure it says "I can never lose it". I believe that this song deals with salvation and that Jesse believes that he has been saved by God and can never lose his salvation, even though he sins a lot.

Thrice – The Messenger Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is definitely the story of Isaiah in Isaiah Chapter 6. There are some direct and close to direct quotes straight out of this chapter. Here are some of those quoted from the Bible:

Kiss the coals; breathe in smoke

"Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, "See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for." -Isaiah 6:6-7

And I say, "Here I am, send me."
Lifts my soul, free and so unafraid
"Here I am, send me, send me."
Free and so unafraid
"Here I am, send me."

"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" - Isaiah 6:8

How can they hear me when their hearts are hardened?
How can they see me when they close their eyes?
So they can tell that I'm an easy target

"Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed." - Isaiah 6:10

About the wooden saw. Isaiah's death isn't specified in the Bible but Christian traditions believe he was cut in half by a wooden saw. There is some evidence that prophets were killed by the saw but it does not say if Isaiah was or not:

"They were stoned; they were sawed in two; they were put to death by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated—" - Hebrews 11:37

Mark me with fire and send me
Among the living dead
They cannot comprehend me;
I watch the sickness spread

Obviously this part is when Isaiah is ready to spread the word of God among the lost (the living dead). They cannot comprehend him because he is a Christian and they have not experienced this yet.

Thrice – Open Water Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with this song being about God and life.

I'm starting to
believe the ocean's
much like you,
because it gives
and it takes
away.

The ocean is like God because he gives us his wonderful love and forgiveness but also he takes things away from us in our lives to tear our hearts (death of a family member, moving to another state) and also God takes away things away from us to make our lives more Christ-like (temptations, drugs, alcohol).

The OPEN WATER
is my only fear,
but I'll sail as long as I still have breath in me.

The open water is like life. Life, like the open water, is a scary thing. We must keep striving through life even when it is tough.

That's what it means to me.
