Kings of Leon – Be Somebody Lyrics 17 years ago
Love the song as well, but has anybody noticed that the bass and rhythm sections are completely ripped from the middle jam section of My Morning Jacket's "Run Thru." Take another listen.

My Morning Jacket – Touch Me I'm Going to Scream Part 2 Lyrics 17 years ago
I could very well be wrong...probably am. I do some trouble fitting in my theory within the context of the first verse. However, "Don't you ever turn it off" was the line that made me infer that he might be referring to something non-human.

Superficially, the "smile" of course could refer to a simple smile, but could in a creepy sense refer to the protagonist's sexual fantasy ("i'm smilin' too")....and although "I see myself in you" could very well the innocent words of somebody seeing their reflection through the eyes of a loved one, it could also interpreted as sexual.

I took the song to be a sort of inner struggle of protagonist, possibly an addiction to pornography. He seems to recognize and regret it ("I don't even know why", "Don't you ever turn it off", "I am with it, "I am wired") but yet cannot control and resist the very primal urges ("Feeling high on my human needs") that you referred to ("Oohhhh this feeling is wonderful"). The fact that the song is dark and Jim's voice is almost remorseful, especially in that second verse seems to the contradict the cheery/lovey-dubeyness of the superficial interpretation of the lyrics.

I definitely exaggerated the context and got a little carried away, but hey Jim James is single (as far as I know), seemed kinda lonely (according to the Spin interview)....he has made allusions to masturbation before and he has a penchant for writing cryptic lyrics. Remember, the album is called EVIL URGES. Sexual gratification is certainly an urge that humans possess and there are people out there who view masturbation as objectionable.

I don't know you.....maybe you don't want to believe that that's what the song is about, but hey unless Jim tells us nobody will ever know. However, I don't think that my "hypothesis" is that unreasonable.

My Morning Jacket – Look at You Lyrics 17 years ago
this song seems to draw upon a double religious/political metaphor, possibly jim james singing about an ideal presidential candidate.

the "good citizen", "power to lead to without fear" and "peace and glory" could be adjectives to describe this ideal leader but also could be attributed to a religious figure.

My Morning Jacket – Touch Me I'm Going to Scream Part 2 Lyrics 17 years ago
to me at least this song is possibly about pornography/masturbation. when i tried to analyze the lyrics i first broke down the chorus "ooooh this feeling is wonderful / don't you ever turn it off"

the "feeling" most likely is sexual and at first a vibrator or something came to mind with the "turn it off" line, but since jim james is male after all, it could mean something else, like pornography. the disco-style drum pattern and the dramatic climaxing sound on the chorus also hints at some sort of sexual undertones.

this is further reinforced in the 2nd verse when he says "I can see it, by the way you smile" (possibly referring to the pornographic actress) and "I see myself in you" (whether imagining himself being the male porn star or literally imagining himself "inside of her")

he also says "I am with it / Ooh man I am wired" which could imply the human urge for sex but also "wired" could represent a subtle reference to the internet/technology.

instead of "feeling high on wine" it should be "feelings...why? oh my human needs" which could also imply the protagonist's need for sexual gratification

also before i ever looked up lyrics for this song instead of "ooo my lord" i heard "blew my load, blew my load and i don't even know why"

now don't get me wrong i realize this sounds twisted and perverted but it should not be a surprise to anybody familiarw tih MMJ's earlier material where these sexual/masturbation references tend to pop up from time to time, such as on "It Beats 4 U" and "Into the Woods"

Nine Inch Nails – The Becoming Lyrics 18 years ago
naaaaaah this song is about the protagonist's attempts to withstand conforming to society around him (aka. becoming). he is digusted by what the nature of society around him, but there is nothing that he can do, since he is "wired".

the lyrics are definitely dystopian and nature and lines like:
all pain disappears
it's the nature of
of my circuitry
drowns out all i hear
no escape from this
my new conciousness

the me that you know he used to have feelings

the me that you know is now made up of wires
and even when i'm right with you i'm so far away

definitely are reminiscent of concepts in "brave new world"...evolving technology around him begins to erode at and wear away the very essence of life itself....pain and love disappears...

My Morning Jacket – It Beats 4 U Lyrics 18 years ago
meaning is pretty straightword...a guy is in love with a girl...

clever masturbation metaphor though:
"Who can count the time I'm beatin...with my hands?"

My Morning Jacket – Into the Woods Lyrics 18 years ago
i always thought this song was about masturbation...at least the second half lol:

A good showerhead and my right hand,
the two best lovers that I ever had.
Now if you find you agree with what I just said,
you'd better find a new love
and let 'em into your head

like some other people above said, "into the woods" could symbolize the destruction of innocence orrrrr he could just be talking about his pubic hairs....whoo knows?
