| and also i think that the friend that the song is talking about was going through some problems, maybe recurring problems. always making the same mistakes, and getting down on him or herself and not seeing the bigger picture, and that's what caused the singer to call em out. | |

| i agree with goldtooth. only to me the meaning relates to any relationship, not just a romantic one. it's the singer as a friend trying to help another very close friend who keeps brushing him off and taking his criticisms, which are meant to be constructive, as insults. it's been a little while since the conflict has been goin on and other people have become involved in terms of knowing about the situation and judging and helping to fuel the friend's self-righteousness and denial of a problem. These of course are not real friends they are people who maybe don't know him as well as the singer does. Over time, the two friends have grown apart and thats where the line "worst parts almost over now" comes in. they're kinda at a crossroad in the relationship whether it continues or it ends. I've been using pronouns when i referred to elliott because I personally believe he was singing the song to himself as an outside observer. Awesome song, i love the guitars and vocals are on point like always. | |

"Tomorrow, I'll feel fine It's yesterday that took my breath away Flying off the handle Finally sweeping down the avenue" I think that's talkin about somebody who's at a crossroad in a relationship with someone who was really close to him at the time and something happened and now theyre not getting along. Like something happening was kinda like getting lost and thats what i interpret from the 3rd and 4th line. "God's up in his heaven And the the devil's on Bonnie Brae But there seems to be no room for us" It seems sometimes like 'God' or the good in the world is abstract - somehow uninvolved, disinterested...distant in a remote place when it comes to our lives, but yet the devil is right here down with us fuckin us up and playin tricks on us. I think bonnie brae was a landmark house that got burned down back in the 50s or somethin. And because evils are here with us on the earth, it sometimes seems "to be no room for us" to live "So choose your poison, it's up to you I recommend you think about it long and hard Because the woods can get thick quick inside Dark and tangled and petrified And you wandered through the endless night And never see the light of day" i think in a sense this song is an apology but moreso just a analysis of the situation and saying that the friendship or relationship is much more important than the things that are bringing it down. the woods are the adversity the person hes talkin to and he may go through if things are left the way they are. "Let's turn the record over" - lets put whatevers happened behind us. "His shadow stays behind you Graceful as a dancer in a ballet" i think hes talking about the devil whos graceful and sneaky. haha thats what i get from it maybe im an idiot...late! |
