| Band of Horses – No One's Gonna Love You Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I don't know if anyone has stated this in earlier posts - I don't care to sift through all of the more annoying comments to find out. But, I think this song is about an attempted suicide... I think the song references wrist cutting - pretty obviously. "It's looking like a limb torn off, or altogether just taken apart." The lines: "And anything to make you smile It is my better side of you to admire But they should never take so long Just to be over then back to another one" - these refer to the depression that goes along with suicide. And finally - there is this reference to things that start splitting at the seams. Well... a seam would be made at the site of an incision after a suicide attempt at cutting one's wrist. I see it as an allusion to that. This to me is definitely a song about someone who cares for another very strongly abd they don't want to see them fall into a depression and harm them self. Beautiful song. So powerful. |

bbJake, I think your interpretation of what they are saying probably comes the closest... and I think it is "weary my mind is to say the least". Uhm, to me this is a song about probably a middle-aged man (or someone in that mindset) who fell in love and found someone who loves him back wholeheartedly. They have both gone through struggles. She worked him out of a big one, dealing with drug abuse and an untamed life... or something along the line. The first segment there explains that flawlessly. After meeting her even his friends know that he has changed and gotten over some of his poor choices once falling in love with her. He knows that he has to slow down at some point in his life and become full of responsibilities in order to create a future. Luckily he has her on his side to work through their problems. And he knows how lucky he is. I think the girl he has fallen for still stresses over him a great deal. She wants her life to be picture perfect and doesn't want to deal with the issues she has left behind, like probably something with her family and a problem of the the past... and he just wants to help her achieve that perfection. In essence, they feed off of each other. A perfect match. |

| This is probably my favorite Radiohead song… but I absolutely hate the lyrics. | |

| I get Jeff. Mr. William here seems a little off... at least with how to relate to the infamous Mangum. | |

I don't know if anyone has said anything thing like this yet... but I really don't feel like reading all four pages of comments. I just read the first four or something like that and everyone seemed to think this song is about a goldfish. Are they retarded? Honestly? Were they all high? Anyway, I relate this song kind of to astrology. I think this girl is a fish symbol, but no, definitely not literally A FUCKING FISH. In astrology, the fish or water symbol (a Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces) is very emotional and has a trend of getting bogged down. This man who is worried about her is most likely and air sign (a Libra, Aquarius or Gemini) by what I'm getting from the lyrics. Air signs have a analytical and also detached. "Oh, Penelope Are you filled with air? Swallowed oxygen that make you float up? Is it dropsy? Where your lungs swell? It's depressing me to see you struggle." Obviously Penelope is out of her element and he is depressed to see her struggle. "I'm treading water with my oars Glass galleons anchored, ocean's floor I'm diving down with all my gear In search of treasure, para me corazon... Take you to the forest. Let you feel the raindrops falling down Seeping through your red scales Eliminate the faucet Eliminate the need for water Replace it with a safe shell" He is trying to make her more comfortable. He is trying to be more compatable with her element. "If they summon the rains now Are you gonna rise?" If it rains will she be with him? |

I like inlovewithhim's description. Haha, I always listen to this song when I'm stoned... and I like how "2X2L calling CQ" sounds kinda like "Joelle, Joelle, I'm calling for you" (Joelle = my name) |

| Neutral Milk Hotel – A Baby for Pree Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This is by far my favorite Neutral Milk Hotel song. It is simply beautiful. To me, Blistering Pree reminds me of my relationship with my mother. I think she likes children… she liked the idea of children but she should have never had them. It’s hard for her because of her own unstable childhood as a result of her parents divorce. This led her to never known how to raise children or how to deal with them. Pree is my mother. She tried long and hard to get pregnant and when she did she was happy (when she was “smiling and swollen”). Little did she know how sensitive children are (“with their hearts hanging open”); so she shoved them aside “in some brown dresser drawer”. When they no longer fit (as children do grow) and they became a problem she filled with anger and rage as though bees were stinging through her chest (her children angering her are the bees stinging her chest). In her anger she beats her children until she is soaked with sweat. “There is no sorry to be sorry for” because the damage is done, she has hurt us. Eventually when she swallows all her sweat (when she evaluates what she has done) she will realize that she has left us some place unpleasant (across a bathroom floor) and her damage will carry on forevermore (whether it be our memories of her or God forbid our relationship with our children). I’m am completely convinced that this song is not about abortion because of the line “makes babies to breathe” Furthermore, this song is extended in the Live at Jittery Joe’s version. “Glow right into you, I will glow Right into you I will glow Right into you And I let you down Swollen and small is where you find me now With that silver stripping off and my tongue you're tearing out And you'll never hear me talk Glow right into you, I will glow Right into you I will glow Right into you And I will be strong, strong enough To shout above your voice that's clearing of And your face that's falling out into the dust of what you want And I will never hear you talk Glow right into you, I will glow Right into you I will glow Right into you And with my little fingers I could make it all crumble I could make it all over Before you would even know Glow Into you Into you I'll glow” This is Pree’s effects of her wrongdoings (“glow into you”). The glow is the emotional (and perhaps physical) resluts of her anger. It is repeated and repeated BECAUSE it is the effects and the results of what she had done, and she is aware and she does feel sorry about it. “And I let you down, swollen and small is where you find me now” is how she feels after she has “swallowed all her sweat” (as stated before, when she has reflected on what she has done). She knows that she is strong enough to overpower her children, that even with her little fingers she could make it all crumble, she could make it all over, before you would even know. |

I'm just getting out of a relationship right now and I'm trying to be optomistic about it all but at the same time it's a constant struggle. This song really seems to apply to everything I'm trying to deal with. Totally agree with you DerangedHippo. I also like the line "Finding a replacement with a heart sedated, I'll forget you." It seems to sum up the entire song quite nicely. |
