| NOFX – The Man I Killed Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
When I first heard this song I figures the man he killed in the song was no one. It was just a general unpopular figure. I always thought that the song was ABOUT the pointlessness of political assassinations. How not just one man's death can truly better a country. That if a political figure who is seen to cause a lot of pain, has many people under him who still contributes, and will continue after he is gone. Basically, I thought it was saying how no one man is responsible for country wide pain, it takes many men and women to do wrong or allow wrong. That the only way to better a country is to change how people think and work towards a complete betterment of the government and people. Obviously I was mistaken. Looking at all of these comments I realize that all the fans of this song either believe Bush is solely responsible for this countries difficulties or the "secret coalition" behind him is. So it is probably just about some weird dream he had where he killed G.W, because honesty I doubt there is any real depth to this song. I just want to say this though. WAKE UP! There is no conspiracy. There is no quaint little excuse for why there are problems in this country. Yes it is the governments fault, but its also your fault And my fault. Its everyone's fault. So stop complaining about it and go out and do something, speak you mind and educate yourselves, but at least stop blaming one man for everyone's mistake. |

| Elvis Costello – Welcome To The Working Week Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think its about someone being reaching there goal and realizing that they still have a lot of hard work to do. It opens talking about someone who got there dream and is "in the paper being rhythmically admired" and "can have anyone that they have ever desierd" yet when they get to their goal they realize it wasn't like they expected and that its a lot of work. He then talks about how "your family had to kill to survive and they're still waitin' for their big day to arrive" and how "if they knew how i felt they'd bury me alive" He got his big break yet he is still upset with how hard it is yet he feels guilty for it because he knows there are others who would kill to be in his place. "I hear you sayin', "Hey, the city's alright, when you only read about it in books. Spend all your money gettin' so convinced that you never even bother to look. Sometimes I wonder if we're livin' in the same land, Why d'you wanna be my friend when I feel like a juggler running out of hands?" These lines could just be about how they read about fame and saw all these other people make it look so easy, but living it he thinks that maybe there on different planets cause thats not how he feels about it. |

| Shellac – Prayer to God Lyrics | 18 years ago |

This song is just so powerful. When he starts to build up towards the end then just screams "Fucking kill him, fucking kill him,Kill him already, kill him," You can feel the pure emotion behind it. Then in the end he just settles down and calmly says "Amen." This song is just so beautifully revealing into the darkness of the human psyche. Hearing it I can only praise Steve Albini as the genius he is. |

| Barenaked Ladies – Same Thing Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I agree with bugmenot's, but i think it also talks about the two faced aspect of celebrity. While Charlie Brown was depressed and famous the two didn't have anything to do with one another. I feel itt's more of a reference to Charlie brown ttrying to kick the football and it being pulled away. He trusted Lucy but she betrayed him again. Also as far as as the Fantastic Four go, it could be saying how the people he idolized are turning their back on him. Or even how meeting his heroes he realizes they aren't anything special and he is losing all the people he could look up to. | |
