MGMT – Kids Lyrics 13 years ago
I think it's about a dad looking back on a divorced family...

"You were a child
Crawling on your knees toward him
Making momma so proud"

obviously when the child was young, written retrospectively.

"But your voice is too loud"

Something not quite right? Was the child putting a strain on their relationship?

"We like to watch you laughing
Picking insects off of plants
No time to think of consequences"

Again, memories...

"Control yourself"
Referring to the line below

"Take only what you need from it"

I think this him talking to himself - I think he's telling himself to control himself - that his relationship with his child should not be for his own selfish reasons, and that he shouldn't let his feelings about the divorce come off on the kid.

"A family of trees wanting to be haunted"

Where the child used to play, and now, presumably, plays elsewhere.

"The water is warm
But it's sending me shivers"

"A baby is born
Crying out for attention
Memories fade
Like looking through a fogged mirror"

Again, looking back to a time before.

"Decisions too
Decisions are made
Decisions are made and not bought"

Reflecting on the decision to divorce?

"But I thought this wouldn't hurt a lot
I guess not"

It hurts a lot / regret.

For me, this song is about the dominance of the rich over the poor, and that those with the power to change things, 'turn the other cheek' and continue 'to win'. I think this song is about the injustice of the world.

Like someone else mentioned before - it's such a powerful song.

Regina Spektor – Better Lyrics 15 years ago
What a fantastic song.

I think it is about depression. She sounds like she's singing about someone she really cares about who is depressed and she can't tell whether her efforts to show love are having any effect on him/her. It's easy to miss the emotion in her voice when she sings 'better', because the song is superficially a happy one.

I love this song. For me it's about a short casual relationship that started when two people (under the influence - I guess alcohol) slept together for either just one night or a few nights. I think the reference to 'call for hands up above to lean on' is about religion not being enough to keep her happy and her needing this relationship to be fulfilled. I'm guessing the devil reference might be because their relationship was not church-approved. I don't think it's to do with ecstasy though.

Funny to read all the different opinions. When I heard it I thought it was about Marriage. Most of it's about a committed, loving relationship, - like you would expect in a marriage - stuff about combing ears etc :) The other bits I think can be explained :

"I wanted to walk a trail with no end in sight"
So that sounds a bit like marriage

"The moment we believe that we have never met
Another kind of love" - "it's easy to forget"
I think referring to the love of romance and passion, giving way to the love of marriage. And that that sort of love can be forgotten.

"The others say we're hiding
It's as forward as can be"
I think this means their friends aren't too impressed with their relationship, but they seem quite happy.

"I wanted to see right through from the other side"
Maybe this means the female singer wanted to experience what it was like to be married - having always had shorter, casual relationships?

The rest of it is either more obvious, or I don't get it at all.
