They use a few references in this song: "A curse on your houses" - Romeo and Julliet by Shakespeare Rivers run with your sons' blood - A reference to the famous 'Rivers of blood' speech by Enoch Powell a message of apparent hatred of immigration, but also the intended message of the speech, Labour passing anti discrimination. Personaly I dont think this is an anti war song, dont shoot me down but its not your typical 'Throw down your guns and dance till the morning comes' kind of song. I think the main message of the song is anti-nanny state. "Cancel your thoughts out forever" Is this not what a nanny state would lead to? People being unable to think and make descisions for themselves? "Of cordons and tannoys in symmetry" These are both methods of control, and in a truly equal society everyone would look exactly the same so there may also be an anti communist/socialist element here. Someone else might be able to support or oppose my claims though... I think there may be more anti-leftist views here but im not sure on quotations. |
