For me, this song is again about religion, but more from a Catholics point of view rather than Gods point of view. It's so cold in this house (The church is cold due to a lack of people/love) Open mouth swallowing us (the open mouth symbolises the temptations of the modern world) The children staying home from shool Will not stop crying (Stayin away from the church is like stayin off school, and although it is their choice and should be regarded a treat or w.e it only hurtst them) The next verse is about a Catholic telling God that tehy understand why he doesn't always answer their prayers and help them, but that it still hurts. Like drinking poison, like eating glass (the blood and body of christ, and how they see it as harmful) It's so cold in this house Come and show me how it was We've got crosses on our eyes (the next bit shows how the people are blinded by their religion, walking into things possibly damagin themselves.) These are just my thoughts, what you guys think? |

For me, this song is about Kele coming out as gay. I'm not gay by the way, I just always thought this before I found out what the title meant and thought I would share my views anyway. "I tore down the posters off my wall" Suggests how he is shedding his previous skin and moving to a new life. "I called up Eugene told him i was drowning" It sounds to me like he is drowing in denial and confesses the truth to Eugene (his dad) which fits later, when he tells him to tell his mum he is sorry. "Being a man made me coarse When I wanted to be delicate" He wanted to be one thing, but becoming a man made him something he did not expect. "Cast away on a warm ocean" Feels isolated but comfortable with his life. "Its not becoming for a boy my age" Trying to show people feel about him maybe? The thought of hope that people will accept him makes him sad, he puts all this faith in people but they let him down. The battle will last as long as his life as he cannot stop being who he is. "The winds stopped" It seems unrealistic now he has come out, nothing can stop him, the calm before a storm? He feels guilty for afflicting this on his mother? These are just my thoughts I know its probably not what the song is about just thought i'd share it with you |

I think its about a poor man that is getting married, he finds himself on a hillside with a punctured tire (basically he finds himself isolated from other people) and then a charming man comes along and seduces him. "Why ponder life's complexities when the leather runs smooth on the passenger seat? " I think this line shows how he is secued. I personally think this song is about how love is blind and how this man is taken out of the cold and taken into the warmth of another man, thats just my feeling on it anyway. |

I think this song is about a relationship breaking up from the line "this can't be the end." The drops of rain are symbolism for crying and the vows of silence is her refusing to talk to him. However he sees the look in her eyes that makes him crazy because he knows that deep down she still loves him and that is why he is saying, "I'll take you over if you let me" because he knows if she let him back into her life he would be able to get their relationship back to how it used to be. I personally think that this song is about a man that is in love with a woman, however she does not love him back maybe they used to have something. When he is out he'll spend the night with another girl "her" is just a name for any other girl, almost to try and make Holly jealous although this doesnt work. I know there are a few refrences to "two" but I can't get over the lines "use me holly" it shows how he is hopelessly in love with this holly and he will do anything to be with her. Even if he knows that she is just using him. Be interested to know what you think guy! |
