I know that both Codemanallison and iheartedwardcullen said that it was about Fred's friend hitting a pole or whatever, but I still cant seem to stop seeing 'taking back sunday screwed me over' references in this song, particularly with Adam. You’re a good friend with a bad tendency to get in over your head Don’t you, don’t you fall asleep (Gonna get us both killed, driving late to Coatesville) This line seems to be referring to Adam and his control over the band, saying that he's a good friend but he may not always know whats best. He warns him not to fall asleep (lose focus), because he will get them killed (meaning the band will suffer) We hit the ice Just before the telephone pole We hit the brakes But there was no escape That sorta sounds like he's talking about the direction of the band after they left Victory and got signed with Warner, Warner being the ice and the telephone pole being the point where they stopped being a credible band and began selling out. And I see a car in your future They stitch and they sew and they suture But this day will scar Right now we know how lucky we are Seems like Fred is saying that there will be another car (another change in direction, opportunity?) that will 'stich and sew and suture' (change the band). 'We know how lucky we are' may be a reference to the loyal fan base, that even though their musical direction has changed they are extremely lucky because the day has not yet come when they make a massive mistake and it will 'scar'. Then again I was here a month ago It was your birthday It fell on a Friday And I should’ve been there For that I’m sorry I just added that one cause last year, Adam's birthday fell on a friday, iuno, I just thought it was pretty cool :) Anyways, I know Fred has a whole like, real life story to go with the song but I've never taken the song literally, all I can hear is Fred talking about Adam's control over the bands direction. |

i only just got this song a little while ago cause i got the parttwo dvd and the cd side had it, and i must say its in my top three favourite songs by these guys you just read the lyrics hundreds of times and cant imagine what it sounds like but then you hear it and its just like, duh, of course thats what its meant to be! it kind of prepared me for their new album cause i was freaking out about having to come to term with new songs, you kind of get used to the same ones. but now i know its gonna be ok (: but yes, this song actually gives me goosebumps each time i listen to it, especially the second verse, love it. |

i have a question, im not sure if its like that in every version of this song but mine has a bit of talking at the beginning, someone goes "is there an ashtray in here or what?" now my question is that afterwards somebody goes "can we smoke in here?", does anybody know who says that? because it sounds exactly like adam lazzara. i also reckon its him because then someone says "yeah eric said there were pockets" or something, and a man named eric valentine produced taking back sundays last album. i just really wanna know coz im heaps curious and stuff like this kills me :] i dont know why modest mouse would include audio from tbs or why adam lazzara would be there or whateverrr but iuno it just works in my head :D so yeahhhh anyone knowwww? |

i reckon its about two people, not necesarrily in a relationship. "You may tire of me As our December sun is setting" i'm from australia so in decemeber its summer but ive been to the other side of the world & know the look and feel of a december sun. it feels incredibly new + fresh each day, because of all the snow. they are comparing a new friendship (or relationship) to a december sun because in those first few weeks or months its so exciting and feels like its always gonna be great. however, the december sun is setting, so all of the excitement and novelty of something new will wear off. people change, and eventually you will stop laughing at peoples jokes and find them irritating. however, its up to you how you handle it, if you decide to give up. "But even at our swiftest speed We couldn't break from the concrete And the city where we still reside" this could be a metaphor for the situation they are stuck in. they are no longer happy with their relationship but no matter how much they try they are still stuck in the same place, because they are afraid of change. they have that feeling of 'if i leave it will probably be worse' so they want to stay comfortable. "Because now we say goodnight From our own seperate sides Like brothers on a hotel bed" this is simply talking about the awkwardness when they go to sleep, comparing it to brothers on a hotel bed. its silent and nobody knows what to say, they both know theyd rather be anywhere but there. |

love this song to death, some of tupacs softer stuff, not so much swearing + gang lifestyle stuff. better version of the song is with rihanna.. check out limewire for 'we ride' by rihanna + tupac gyeah i know its not official but its a sick song + i reckon the beat of 'i aint mad at cha' goes way better with it. yaaaaa |

i reckon its called bike scene coz relationships are like learning to ride a bike. you will screw up, you'll get hurt, & it will feel like your going somewhere when really your just gonna crash. 'Let's never talk, let's never, let's never talk about this again because... I didn't want it to mean that much to me' it almost seems like he's embarrassed that things ended that way, that they couldn't make it + it all just fell apart. 'Anyway... yeah' the whole song sounds embarrassed, awkward. 'anyway, yeah' is what you say when youve said something and gotten heaps into it, you put what you feel out there, then you get no response. its like you get a bit embarrassed and you wanna seem like you really didnt care that much.. lets just change the subject. anyway, yeah. great song, love the band to freakibg bits |

this song is about how everything in life is planned, everything makes sense. nothing happens by accident. i've never heard a song that has summed up every thought i feel so perfectly until this one. never before has a song grasped me so tight that i just lay there & feel so much pain in my heart that i cant even cry. i always felt bad for being so bitter about love, i see couples and it makes me angry. i just feel anger. this song made me feel like i wasnt alone in this.. & judging from the comments there are plenty of others who feel this way. the way its worded.. 'I believe that lovers should be chained together And thrown into a fire with their songs and letters And left there to burn Left there to burn in their arrogance But as for me I'm coming to my final failure I've killed myself with changes trying to make it better But I still ended up becoming something other Than what I had planned to be' its so brutally honest, yet what most of us feel. you try to change the way you feel + be happy for people.. killing yourelf with changes, trying to make things better.. but instead you just get more bitter, becoming something other than what you had planned to be. this is the most beautifully written song i have ever laid eyes on and Conor is the most amazing songwriter, right after adam lazzara of course. p.s i agree with those who said that the last lines were about a funeral. it doesnt seem right for it to be about being happy for them.. he just seems to be accepting that their gonna be there no matter what and you might as well live with it. in my opinion its explaining how all these lovers always throw it in your face, saying they'll be together til death, how its so beautiful + they'll die together, so conor's saying he might as well just give them what they want if they want it so bad. just die together already. + as for his voice, none of their songs would be anywhere close to how good they are if conor didnt have that voice. theres so much pain inside it, and it makes you feel the words so much more. amazing song. |
