Pretty historic song. This was the first song Ben and Jimmy worked on together. This song would help them create The Postal Service - the name of the band names after how they created this song, buy sending mix copies of the song to Ben to add lyrics and send back in the mail. |

Has anyone else heard the added in deep breath after the first verse? Its a repeat from the start of the song when Ben takes a deep breath to start the song. It's repeated after the verse "It didn't happen to me". Just a little touch from Jimmy I am sure, hes into doing stuff like that in Dntel. Overall one of the best songs from them. |

The word albatross is sometimes used to mean an encumbrance, or a wearisome burden. A poem talks about a shipmate on a boat shooting an albatross that was following a ship. For his punishment his crew mates made him wear it around his neck.
I think it's just about being in love with a girl.
I think its one of my favorite GBV songs. |

I always felt it was about the feeling of getting rich and famous with a major label. "all hooked up" is the act of getting into shows and getting free shit from being in a band.... that or maybe just being fucked up. who knows. |

I think of shortwave radio. Shortwave radio transmits around the world "passport radio". I think of listening to far away signals on my shortwave and finding it for the first time and listening with head phones and trying to find far away signals mixed in with the static and hiss of the radio. |

The video tells a story of a high school love with a football player. As if the jock call him "fag" in front of his friends and in public, but inside has a love for him. He can't show his feelings around anyone so hides it by gay bashing. |

I take this as the statement on "indie rock" or underground music. All the unknown bands labeled "strange" or "weird" by people. The bands that open for the head liner that clear out the place before their set is over. It's a response to corporate rock and top 40 vomit. It's not always about "polish and pretense" but having fun and being different. The backbeat groups that keeps the music scene unique.
I really like this song and things its a perfect opening song for the album. |
