| Savatage – Hall Of The Mountain King Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Classic "epic fantasy" heavy metal, nothing else. And that's well enough. | |
| Saxon – Princess Of The Night Lyrics | 14 years ago |

One of the quintessential rock songs. Anyone who has ever seen a live steam locomotive knows why they wrote it. |

| Thin Lizzy – The Boys Are Back In Town Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I don't care about any militaristic bullshit. This song is about meeting up with the old gang, the friends that no amount of time and distance can ever take away from you, and setting the bloody town on fire. |

| If you don't know this song, the words "rock'n'roll" should never, ever leave your mouth. Nuff said. | |
| Týr – Sand In The Wind Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| It's a perfect summation of the magnificent struggle of the human mind to make sense of our life. The unsatisfiable curiosity that drives us, the desire to understand, to find out how the world truly works, that one greatest adventure of mankind which will never end as long as we exist. | |
| Ulver – I Troldskog Faren Vild Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| One of the finest Black Metal songs ever released -strong, haunting and mysterious. | |
| Uriah Heep – Return to Fantasy Lyrics | 14 years ago |

The meaning to me is basically "I never want to 'grow up'" Even if you're a rational mind like me, it doesn't mean you can't have fun letting your imagination run wild. |

| Deep Purple – Before Time Began Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Easily the best song on the whole album. I may interpret too much into it, but I think that it has more than one meaning, I'll explain. The title suggests it's about the past, maybe a group of prehistoric humans facing the hardships of their time. Most of the song up to the last 7 lines or so is a sad and angry look at the current state: people living in a state of dull day-to-day survival, conflicts, superstitions and mistakes having shaped a hostile environment. The last part however contrasts that negativity with something else: The promise of a future for those of mankind who endure, underlined by strong guitar and organ chords. Now here's where the multi-leveledness I mentioned comes into play: The whole song can be applied to just about any era of humanity, up to and including our own time where many people feel the way described in the song. Also here's where for me, the true meaning of the song lies, and what makes it so strong: That the promise of the future is for us too, that we're not at the end of human history but at the beginning of a new time and that we will go on through the hardships, together, to a greater tomorrow. The final notion isn't hard to understand. Without any ill will towards believers, those that embrace the promise can finally leave the gods and superstitions behind them that have caused humanity so much problems for so long. |

| Motörhead – Wake The Dead Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I can't believe nobody has commented on this yet. This is easily my most favourite motorhead song. Wether it is due to the fast drums with minimalistic riffs and monotone singing during the verses but angry and aggressive choruses, or the lyrics that, while rather mysterious, still manage to convey a strong atmosphere... I don't know. As to the meaning... not easy to understand (for me) what this is about, even for Lemmy it's unusually cryptic. Maybe about people who want others to fear them, but don't relize their insignificance? Nah... I have the feeling this is about some very specific character, yet I cannot place it... |

The very meaning of true friendship. Everyone has their secret "dark side" that even those closest to you may not know about... but a true friend will not let you succumb to it. |
