| The Stone Roses – This Is The One Lyrics | 11 years ago |

I've just done "She bangs the drums" but This Is The One is a little less obvious to me. I think it's about a girl who's chased something her whole life. He doesn't make very clear what it is, but I think it's him that she's always wanted. The first verse he says she wants something badly "girl consumed by fire" and it's obvious what it is "we all know her desire". The next bits confusing "I have her on a promise; immerse me in your splendour, all the plans that I have made". I think to make sense of it the two latter parts need quote marks. That's the promise she has asked of him "immerse me in your splendour, all the plans that I have made". She's asking him "make me a part of your life". The song for me is him saying to her "This is it, it's about to happen for you, the one you've waited for", sort of a "I've realised I feel the way you do", but she doesn't believe him. He's frustrated that she's not sharing his joy "I'd like to leave the country, for a month of Sundays, burn the town where I was born [He'd do whatever now he has her, he doesn't care anymore, he's happy], if only she'd believe me". The comment about burning his town is a mix of joy and rage, his frustration. She doesn't believe him initially, she's wanted it so much, she can't believe it's happened, she's maybe even scared of it. Then he's singing, reiterating "this is it!!". Then comes the crucial line "I paid her back; then I got one". He paid up his promise to her, and he's glad he did, he got one - the one! Great song. |

I think the first verse is about everything coming together, it's on the horizon, he's about to get the girl. The earth's begun to move, his song begins to play, it's HIS time. People tend to over analysis with regards to "the past was yours but the futures mine", I think it's simple, he's taking about her current boyfriend. His (Ian, or the singer) song is playing, and it's singing the end for her current guy. Next verse is about that sick feeling you get right before you get something you've really really wanted for a long time. He doesn't feel steady on his feet, he feels hollow, he feels weak. That's not nausea, it's pure nerves, nervous excitement. "Through the early morning sun" it's a new day, a new start for him and her. "I can see her, here she comes, she bangs the drums". I'm guessing but I imagine that means she makes his heart race. The rest is him single of his joy, a pure celebration of her entry into his life. An excellent song! |

| Fantastic song, and suprisingly good lyrics from Mariah. The meanings needs no explanation, the title of the song says enough | |
