Isn't this about sadomasochism? "In the end you will SUBMIT, it's got to HURT a little bit." ? Also, it's titled SUB-CULTURE. |

| Tori Amos – Girl Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I always thought it was about a girl having a crush on another (heterosexual) girl, and fantasizing about that girl falling in love with her, while she knows she's been "everybody else's girl", and will never be "her own". The end is about our girl hiding her lesbian passion under fake relationships, heterosexual 'romances' that family and friends would consider 'good' and 'quiet', but still calling her baby, and seeing hope of happiness slowly fading away. But that's just an intepretation, the introspective ones you have reported seem to be even more interesting. | |
| Tori Amos – Precious Things Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| A not-so-good looking, introspective teenage girl has a crush on a handsome, popular lad. He doesn't want her, but tries not to hurt her calling her a good piano player, and generally saying nice things about her skills and intelligence. Though she realizes it, she keeps on aiming for the boy's love, secretly dreaming about him, and starts developing hate towards the other mediocre, "christian", respectable boys that joke about her shyness and try to seduce her, considering themselves cool and skillful enough to satisfy her, make her happy. She's kind of conserving her virginity for the perfect boy, but not because she's repressed or unhealty, just because she considers her first time a precious event, something that got to be amazing, and to be done with a special boy. The other girls are easy, popular and shameless. She, with her peach dress (symbol of purity, childish nudity), pales in comparison to their "fascist panties", their "nine inch nails" (symbols of aggressivity, vanity). In the end, to prevent tension from destroying her, decides to "Let it bleed", and loses her virginity with a mediocre boy, she faces the harsh truth, and steps into the world. This song doesn't say that decision could make any girl ultimately happy, but suggests it's almost impossibile to have a good adolescence when you have a certain romantic, dream-like plan for yourself in mind. Like me. Lol. | |
