This may be a really odd interpretation but this song always makes me think of a prostitute who wants to change his/her life, but thinks it's impossible although he/she is given the possibility to start over and building up a new life.
He/she is too afraid that life will become even worse if taking the risk of starting a new, "ordinary" life. |

This song is so beautiful and listening to it makes me feel very sad. It makes me think of when I fell in love with someone who seemed to fall in love with me too, at least so I thought. He was very insecure and didn't believe anyone could love him. I did though, which surprised him. Everything was going well, then it all just started to change. The more self-confident he became, the more distant he started to act towards me. We are friends today though, and he has told me that when he realised that there were girls who were interested in him, he wanted to sort of "play the field".
Maybe my story is a bit off-topic really, discussing the song, but I have so strong feelings about this song beacuse I can relate to it because of what I went through. |

To me this song really describes how strong love can be when it strikes you.
It seems that he has fallen in love with a close friend to him, he has never seen that person this way before, he chooses not to let the object of his affection know about his feelings since he probably is afraid that it would ruin their friendship. He is satisfied just knowing that his friend will be there for him until the end. |

I think this song is about choosing between your own happiness and someone elses, and the struggle your mind goes through choosing whether you should let this happen or not. By sacrificing yourself or maybe just letting the other person leave you, it gives him/her the possibility to go and fulfill his/her dreams. |

It's pretty obvious to me, this song is encouraging insecure, young people to just be themselves and not worry so much about what other people think, because there will come a day when it's even more inappropriate for them to act and be as they like - that is, when they grow up and become adults. Adults are expected to act in a certain way and look presentable at all times in order to be accepted by society.
It could be that there is some sort of sarcasm in it as well... |
