To me this song is all about the unfortunate side of karma. The girl is with a guy but is convinced by another guy to leave who she is with and be with him instead, which is described in the first part of the first verse. She fell for him and he made it seem like everything was going to be perfect, and so she broke someone else’s heart and gave her heart to this new guy. But karma comes back to get her, and this new guy breaks her heart. I think that is what she meant for “then you said, ‘wait for me we'll fly the wind, we'll grow old and you'll be stronger without him’ but oh, now my world is at your feet. I was lost and I was found, but I was alive and now I’ve drowned” But because she broke that first guy’s heart, everyone is making her feel like she deserved it and no one understands why she ever left the first guy to begin with. She even feels like she deserves the pain because she caused someone else pain to begin with. Hence the lines, “So now I will be waiting for the world to hear my song so they can tell me I was wrong.” Now she is left to be without any emotional support, heartbroken, and live with the fact that she deserves this, but is unable to explain to anyone her actions, which is basically everything said in the chorus and the second verse. All in all beautifully tragic song. I love love love it. |
