I definitely agree, the line "I'm scared I'll get scared and I swear I'll try to nail you back down" is such a great one and it's really powerful. It reminds me of how Peter denied Jesus the three times on the night he was betrayed. Hiding or publicly rejecting my beliefs out of fear or embarrassment is like nailing him back to the cross and turning my back on his sacrifice. |

This song is beautiful. One of the best I've heard in a long time. I'm a big fan of Brand New and this is definitely one of my favorite songs from them. The second part of the song, for me, expresses an uncertainty about the existence or nature of God. As a Christian myself, it reminds me of my own struggles with doubt and questioning whether or not I'm strong or faithful enough to get into Heaven and if I'm worthy of God's love. I don't know if that was at all the intent behind the lyrics, but it's really significant to me. The reference to doubting Thomas is one that strikes me because he's one of the people in the Bible that I identify with the most. Regardless, this song is one of the few out there that truly makes me think and has the ability, through personal meaning and the beauty of the vocals and music itself, to bring me to tears. |

this reminds me of a boy that i recently met, we didn't have a "thing" per se, but there was a mutual attraction. however, i happen to have a jealous boyfriend who picked up on it almost immediately, so things are awkward between us now. ha, this relates to the song because it's about getting attached to someone without truly knowing them, and then feeling an intense loss when they're gone, even though it may not be mutual or even merited. the last two times i went in to pacsun, this song was playing when i walked in. it's been my favorite for the past year. |

i'm not going to pretend to be able to perfectly understand the meaning of this song. however, it greatly reminds me of when i met a boy on a bus, and he shared his ipod with me and told me this was his favorite song. it sort of encapsulates how i felt about him and now i can't listen to this song without thinking about it. it's gorgeous, the vocals are incredible. |

i heard this song for the first time when i saw skillet at soulfest in august '06, before comatose was released. i saw them again this summer and they played this song again. both times, i was almost in tears because it's so beautiful and strong. john said it was about a girl who is misunderstood and mistreated by her parents and cuts herself to try and escape the pain of her daily life. this song is sung from the point of view of god, who is reaching out to the girl when she's at her breaking point and about to commit suicide. incredible. |
