Deep Purple – Speed King Lyrics 18 years ago
Interesting ... I was wondering how many people think this song is about drugs - I mean what else could it be about with such lyrics ? ... and if so, I think it shows that drugs may have some negative impact in this world, but they also inspire some fucking great rock songs ........ this is one of the absolute greatest

Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here Lyrics 18 years ago
17 pages, bloody hell .... well what more can be said. I havent really read any of the comments in detail, but noticed a couple of references to old boy Barrett, and that's pretty much who this song was inspired by as far as Im concerned.
There would be no Pink Floyd without Syd Barrett, and he left in the early years due to all kinds of problems. He never returned to public life whatsoever, and he died just last year (2006).
Floyd obviously always 'wished he was there' .. but as such masterpieces mean many things to different people, to me ... today .... it means how much I wish my best friend was here, and being so far away there's not much I can do about that.
She knows who she is, and I will always ... wish you were here.

Pink Floyd – Welcome to the Machine Lyrics 18 years ago
Yes indeed Neil. Ive read many other posts on this site ... all I can say here is, wow ... almost everyone who listens to Floyd and loves a song like this appears to have something worth saying. Possibly I am not among those people, but I love this band, and struggle with the idea of how a bunch of English lads ever became so fucking brilliant.

Queen – We Will Rock You Lyrics 18 years ago
When I looked up this song on here I couldnt believe how many people had bothered to post something completely meaningless. So I thought ... why not join them.
As soon as I came across MoonlitKnight's response, I thought thank god someone has something intelligent to say. This person got it pretty much spot on, as did a few others.
So if you happen to be reading this site in reverse, or come across my post at random - MoonlitKnight and anakoluthon have the low down.
Reassuring to see some people can actually interpret lyrics to some extent, not putting the others down, but come on - dont waste your precious time with something you have no idea about : )

Metallica – Trapped Under Ice Lyrics 18 years ago
I think the person above me (BlairRocksHard) has a very informed opinion and it can hardly be argued against.
Personally, I believe this song is about drug addiction, but could also refer to many other out-of-control situations in life. Metallica just dont write songs about people frozen in lakes. Every line can be taken as a metaphor for drug addiciton – and “NothingMan” hit the mark about the words ‘Hand of Doom’ – taken from the Sabbath song which is more obviously about drug addiction [not just heroin though, remember the line “So drop the acid pill, don't stop to think now”]
Sure the man frozen in time theory is related to death and the album in general is about death, but thats not enough for Metallica. Perhaps James was inspired from somewhere about the theme, whether it came from a passage in a book or whatever is kind of irrelevant, the point here is that he crafted it into a song about serious negative situations that some of us go through in life – with chilling metaphors describing a frozen hell.
I think anyone who has been through the reality of drug addicition or other serious out-of-control situations can see this song is about more than a guy stuck in a frozen lake. The title, afterall, is “Trapped Under Ice” – not inside it.
