| I think the fire is just a metaphor for something addictive that ends up hurting someone a lot - alcohol, smoking, drugs, love, self harm, there's probably loads more. The child starts just playing with it when nobody's watching, then it grows on them and eventually consumes them. | |

I think "I have seen two feet standing proud in the sand," is a reference to Ozymandias by Shelley, which is about the fall of empires, however great they are at their peak: "I met a traveller from an antique land Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert.
