I think the marvel comics agents of fortune and Vera Gemini was after the album. The marvel comics guys at the time must have been big BOC fans. There are all kinds of references to BOC songs and albums in the old comics. Harvester of eyes was in one of the comics too. |

I agree it's definetely about aliens, in fact I think it fits with their whole Imaginos concept. They originally wanted Imaginos to be a double album and had other songs besides Astronomy that were written on past albums that went along with the concept and it involved an alien race. |

In Japanese the world Kamikaze means "god wind" but the common translation is "divine wind" It originally referred to a typhoon that dispersed invading Mongolian forces but was later used to name the WWII suicide bombers. So the song may have something to do with that, I'm not sure. |

The song Astronomy is part of the Imaginos theme and the BOC FAQ is a great source for some of the meanings. As far as the whole Metallica thing goes, I think they are a good band but they should stick to what they do best. The BOC version of Astronomy is full of dynamics and emotion with layered instuments including piano that complement each other. The Metallica version just plods ahead with the the heavy guitar and vocals. That is what they do but they shouldn't have tackled a song like this that has so much more because they basically raped it. Metallica is a one trick pony and anyone that says they "owned" BOC or this song is way off base. Not too many bands can match the creativity or complexity of BOC. |
