Anberlin – Closer Lyrics 15 years ago
I agree, but I don't think it's the point of view character that's got the chequered past. Rather he's the one being held back, who wants his other to come closer to him.
You could also take it as being from God's perspective.

I quite like that interpretation. It could easily be something like that.

Anberlin – Cadence Lyrics 18 years ago
I have a feeling that the recurring guitar riff before the lines in the verse is a cadence of some sort. I'm not too sure though, I'm a little rusty on my music theory...hmm, a half cadence, if anything. It only goes up a semitone, though. No matter.

Mute Math – You Are Mine Lyrics 18 years ago
I think it's fair to say that while Mute Math are not a 'Christian Band' per se, they are still a band of Christians, and will still sing songs to/about God, but without actually saying they are to God.

I think it is more likely, they being a band of Christians, that God is the subject of this song, rather than a girl. Interpret as you will, though, that's a major goal in the writing of Mute Math's songs, that you can make what you will of their music.
