I think this song stretches far deeper than that - touching upon common Christian imagery. If you take Beauty to be Christ, the reference to his being 'on the fire' correlates to his cruxifiction. There are similar, less obvious references, to the death of Christ. The mentions of flying could be seen as imagery of the Ascendancy and 'sensory pleasure' as the pleasure of joining with the Lord in heaven. Limitation scars as a result of this 'pleasure' are a slightly more obvious reference to Stigmata acheived after catching a momentary glimpse of the Lord's pleasure. In short the song refers to the way in which humanity destroys that which strives to do it good |
