| Big Star – The Ballad Of El Goodo Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Wow interesting that no one has commented on this one. It's a song that's about someone that is drafted into the military, but still trying to retain their independence. | |
| Rush – The Body Electric Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| This is a song about a robot gaining self-awareness. | |
| Alice in Chains – Brush Away Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| Layne pretty much said that this album was all mostly songs that were more fun and less depressing than his past songs. Although he didn't seem to stick with that during this time. Again and Shame in You seem to have some darker lyrics to them. He was basically like let's have fun. | |
| Alice in Chains – I Know Somethin' ('bout You) Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| This song wasn't written by Layne. Didn't write too many early songs until Dirt when he pretty much wrote an 80% of the album about his drug use. | |
| Alice in Chains – Love, Hate, Love Lyrics | 11 years ago |
|
From Layne himself..."That was a song about myself and my girlfriend and I wrote it during a time when I was treating her really badly and didn't know how to break the pattern. It was kind of therapeutic, you know? When you really don't know how to break a sick pattern, then you write it down and sing it and it kind of breaks the pattern." This was probably about Layne and Demri's relationship. Although it could have been written just before they met also since this song was written near the start of their relationship. |

| Page and Plant – The Battle of Evermore (Led Zeppelin cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is one of the 3 pure LOTR tunes. The other two are Ramble On, and Misty Mountain Hop. MMH is actually about the Hobbit and a first kids drug trip. You can tell it's LOTR related because Misty Mountains were made up by Tolkien. But it also just summarizes the Hobbit. | |
| Page and Plant – Blue Train Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is one of the most amazing songs Robert Plant ever wrote. I'm surprised there's not been any comments on it yet. | |
| Led Zeppelin – Hots on for Nowhere Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think this song is about Robert quitting drugs and realizing that they weren't doing any good for him. I was burned in the heat of the moment, Though it couldn't have been the heat of the day -Pretty obvious drug references there. Don't have to go too deep into it to realize that. When I learned how my time had been wasted, (And a) tear fell as I turned away -This was after he realized he didn't like being wasted all the time. Now I've got friends who will give me their shoulder, Event I should happen to fall Time and his bride growing older I've got friends who will give me fuck all -He's got friends that will help him if he should fall into drugs again, the last line is hard to tell what it is. I think he says "fuck all" but it's not real audible when hearing it. I've read some lyrics say that he says "before I fall" but it's hard to tell what's said. (On the) corner of Bleeker and nowhere In the land of not quite day A shiver runs down my backbone Face in the mirror turns grey So (I) looked round to hitch up the reindeer Searching hard trying to brighten the day I turned around to look for the snowman To my surprise he'd melted away. -These lines are about drugs. He hasn't had drugs for a while so he feels old Reindeer is whoever gives him the drugs. He was looking for a pick me up. He's trying to brighten up his day, so he went for Cocaine(snowman) but it was gone. As the moon and the stars call the order Inside my tides dance the ebb and sway The sun in my soul's sinking lower While the hope in my hands turns to clay I don't ask that my field's full of clover I don't moan at opportunity's door And if you ask my advice, take it slower Then your story'd be your finest reward. -The first part of this is about him having withdrawls. But in the end he isn't going to moan, He'll take it slow. Now everything's fine under heaven Now and then you've got to take time to pause When you're down on the ground, don't be messin' around Or you'll land in a boat without oars -This is basically saying everything is fine now, then he sends a message to someone else(possibly bandmates) that you need to take time to pause and that when you need to quit while you are a head or you'll be in more dire straits. |

| Led Zeppelin – Darlene Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This is a 50s rockabilly type tune done by Zeppelin. "Pink carnation and a pickup truck" are 50s representations that Don McLean also referenced in American Pie. |
|
| Led Zeppelin – Dancing Days Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Lion and a tadpole is actually that. Robert Plant was at some campus in America. I can't remember which one exactly. But there was a statue of a lion with a tadpole(probably a little fish of some type) in a jar in front of him. The song is just about being young and having fun. |
|
| Led Zeppelin – Celebration Day Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song was greatly inspired by Plant's early impressions of the city of New York | |
| Led Zeppelin – Black Country Woman Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think this had to do with Robert Plant's affair with his wife's younger sister. What is and What Should Never Be was written about her too. | |
| Queen – Somebody To Love Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It's about a guy on the brink of losing faith in everything so he is in desperation searching for somebody to love. | |
| Queen – Killer Queen Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Here's a quote from Freddy Mercury "People are used to hard rock, energy music from Queen, yet with this single you almost expect Noel Coward to sing it. It's one of those bowler hat, black suspender belt numbers – not that Coward would wear that. (...) It's about a high class call girl. I'm trying to say that classy people can be whores as well. That's what the song is about, though I'd prefer people to put their interpretation upon it – to read into it what they like." |
|
| Queen – '39 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
The Milky seas=the Milky way This song is about going into space really fast and going on a mission for a year but they come back and it's 100 years and everyone he knew is gone. |
|
| Queen – I'm In Love With My Car Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song is about a roadie that loved cars and driving and racing. It's not actually a song about sex. | |
| Led Zeppelin – No Quarter Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Thor is the ancient Norse God of Thunder in Norse Mythology. That pretty much tells you where the influences of this song come from. |
|
| Led Zeppelin – For Your Life Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| You can hear a snorting sound in this one at about the 5 and a half minute mark. But this song isn't just about Coke. But I think that's a large part of it. | |
| Led Zeppelin – The Lemon Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Squeeze My Lemon in the way that it's used today is credited to Robert Johnson. But he stole it from someone else for his Traveling Riverside Blues. The song is a mix of Killing Floor with different lyrics and a very unique bass and the Robert Johnson references. | |
| Led Zeppelin – Black Dog Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I'm sure this has all been talked about already but I didn't see it in the more recent postings. The name of the song comes from a black dog that was following the band around where in the cottage where the band was recording IV album. But the song is about a sexual relationship that didn't last. Has nothing to do with satanism or evil in anyway. The guitar is a heavier version of Oh Well from Fleetwood Mac. |
|
| Led Zeppelin – Candy Store Rock Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| The lyrics are from various rockabilly and Elvis songs from the 50s. I love the grove of the song. Page really did his best guitar work overall on Presence. The song is of course about sex. Which is probably the most common topic of Zeppelin songs. | |
| Led Zeppelin – Night Flight Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Yep the song is definitely about avoiding the draft. "I received a message from my brother across the water He sat laughin' as he wrote the end's in sight So I said goodbye to all my friends And packed my hopes inside a matchbox 'Cause I know it's time to fly " He received a message from his brother saying that talked about how ugly the war was and that he was going to die. So this kid packs his bags and tries to leave to avoid the draft "Just n' someone pushed a gun into my hand Tell me I'm the type of man to fight the fight that I'll require " The someone is the government telling me to fight. "Oh, mama, well I think it's time I'm leavin' Nothin' here to make me stay Whoa, mama, well it must be time I'm goin' They're knockin' down them doors They're tryin' to take me away " Now the gvt is trying to force him to fight and he's trying to get away. |
|
| Led Zeppelin – Babe I'm Gonna Leave You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Originally the song was credited as Trad...Arr. by Page Led Zeppelin didn't know who originally wrote this song when they recorded it in 1968. But they always credited Joan Baez in their early concerts. They didn't find out till later that Anne Bredon wrote the song. Now you'll see credits with her name on it and Page with the arrangement title. The arrangement is completely different from Bredon or Baez's versions. |
|
| Led Zeppelin – Achilles Last Stand Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This was called the Wheelchair Peace in some shows(including Knebworth) because while singing it Robert Plant in the studio. He heard a playback of the song and fell down from his wheelchair. This is probably an epic from the band. The lyrics are about the nomadic style of the band and how Robert missed those days because of his injury. |
|
| Led Zeppelin – Wearing and Tearing Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song was both a message to punk bands that Zeppelin is still the loudest and best thing around. And that the punk bands of the time didn't really know what heavy was. It's an attitude that some of those bands didn't really even have. | |
