All Time Low – Weightless Lyrics 16 years ago
Yeah, I think I understand how you feel. I'm in the same situation... I live in this tiny island in the Pacific, and I love it here, because it's my home, but I was looking forward to going off-island for college to experience the rest of the world. Everything was all set, too, but then I couldn't go at the last minute. And almost all my friends are leaving, and now I feel "stuck." I don't want them to forget me, either, but in the back of my mind I feel like I'll be left behind anyway. Right now, I'm just trying to make the best of it. Maybe it's not my weekend, but I'm going to try and make it my year.

JamisonParker – Slow Suicide Lyrics 17 years ago
to me, these lines are very paradoxical:

"We live like vampires" - Vampires are dead... They're reanimated corpses who suck blood from people because blood gives them "life." To say that "we live like vampires" is like saying that we live like we are dead. Instead of enjoying all that life can offer us, we opt for things that we think will give us enjoyment, "life," but only cause us suffering in the end.

"we love like killers" - Almost all killers (except those whose reasons are self defense or by accident) kill people because they hate. To "love like killers" is to love like we hate. We love people, but often do not show it. And more often, we take these people for granted and not realize that what we do is causing them unhappiness. As the cliche goes, we tend to "hurt those we love."

"we all die like infants" - Infants signify new life and inexperience. When we die, we are supposed to be old and full of life experiences. To die like an infant is to die like one who has just begun to live and experience life. Many people die without experiencing much in life. They were so caught up in the unimportant things, that they starting living life a little too late. Hence, they die like infants.

"we trust like mirrors" - Mirrors only show our outer appearance. They give no insight to one's character and personality. Mirrors are superficial. To "trust like mirrors" is to trust based on someone's appearance. Trust is supposed to be built based on a person's true character and personality, so to trust someone just by how they look is really trusting without knowing, without having a solid foundation. Unfortunately, this happens to most of us. We tend to think that just because a person is good-looking and charming, that he/she is a good person... so we trust them. Like Cam said, "we believe what we see."

just my two cents. i don't know if this is what JamisonParker intended the lines to mean, it's just my own take of it.

Paramore – That's What You Get Lyrics 17 years ago
i think this song [like most songs] is about a relationship, where passions have taken over rationality. the two people involved in this are hurting each other because they have been listening to their hearts, letting their emotions rule over their actions instead of listening to their mind. even though they know what they're doing [hurting each other] is neither rational nor right, they keep doing it because - just like most of us - they act accordingly to what they feel [‘i drowned out all my sense with the sound of its beating’]. it's like a 'in the heat of the moment' thing. they're having an disagreement, and they're being very vengeful to each other, maybe even to the point that they’ve severed ties. the singer feels regret for doing all those hurtful things, because it's 'burned bridges' [not only with the person she’s in a relationship with, but also to the people involved with them] and she's probably realized that she's tired of having to deal with this problem that they've created. she’s thinking that she shouldn't have allowed her heart [emotions] dictate her actions; she should have listened to her mind, telling her to do what's right. i think the part ‘why do we like to hurt so much?’ just echoes the irrationality of their actions and how our hearts can cause so much pain.

to me, the message of this song [not let our hearts rule our actions but instead listen to the rationality of our minds] applies not just to a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship, but also to all kinds of other relationships we have with people.

i agree with Stupid_Kid's interpretation of the song.

& i think by the line "you never held my hand like that before" it doesn't mean that they weren't together.
i think it means that they were together,
and they have held hands,
but it's not with the same degree of affection or love that the guy shows when he holds hands with his current girlfriend.
it's like she's saying, "wow, she must be 'the one'... you never showed me that kind affection when we were together..."
but not in a resentful kind of way.

My Chemical Romance – Helena Lyrics 18 years ago
hmm...
would it make a difference if the actual lyrics were,
"so long NOT goodnight" instead of "so long and goodnight"?

'cause i was playing songs on that singstar pop game,
and the lyrics were, "so long NOT goodnight"...
i was like, "huh?"
maybe it's a typo error or something,
but hey, it's something to consider...

Asteria – O Captain! My Captain! Lyrics 18 years ago
Song verson of the poem by Walt Whitman, right?
Which is in honor of President Abraham Lincoln...
It's referring to his assasination by John Wilkes Booth.

Motion City Soundtrack – It Had to Be You Lyrics 18 years ago
"What if it was you?
(You)
You that I needed all along?
I felt like a fool
(Fool)
Thinking we were completely wrong
It seemed like a dream, one beautiful scream
That echoed forever, and made us not afraid to feel a thing
And after it ends, we'll try to be friends
They say what doesn't kill us makes us who we are."

i think it means that a relationship ended...
maybe the guy's the one who ends it...
but he still remains friends with the girl.
[after it ends, we'll try to be friends]

... and then the guy comes to the realization that maybe he was wrong?
[I felt like a fool, thinking we were completely wrong]

---

err... yeah. just my thoughts.

btw, Prince William Sound is a body of water in Alaska... and in 1989 one of the largest oil spills in history occurred there when the tanker Exxon Valdez ran aground on Bligh Reef and lost 10.9 million gallons of crude oil into the sound... this had a really bad effect on the ecology, which included the death of birds.

so i guess that's what the line, "Let's save birds from Prince William's sound" is referring to...
