Wow, I heard some of the lyrics so differently: "and a big trapeze" = "and a picture piece" "Slippin' in my faith until I fall" = "slippin' in my bed until I'm mauled" "He never returned that call" = "YOU never returned that call" Hm, oh well... This song still has beautiful lyrics. I think they're about how the girl wants him to move on, get on the fast track, and in a way he does too, but he can't help reminiscing about "the good old days." I love all the images listed in a row - "a southern drawl a world unseen a city wall and a trampoline" - it's like his life is flashing before his eyes. They're like a flashback, a dream. |

| Neko Case – Hold On, Hold On Lyrics | 18 years ago |

It's funny how everyone's talking about her family - I didn't even think of that at all. "The most tender place in my heart is for strangers..." She doesn't let herself get close to anyone anymore. "Compared to some I've been around / But I really tried so hard." She's been with a lot of men by now, and none of them was right...at this point she's just ready to go home alone, numb, because people have told her time and again to hold on, true love is waiting, but again and again "That echo chorus lied to me." Even a bride is seen succumbing to drugs, agreeing with her...what a sad statement about love. :( |

| The Beatles – Happiness Is a Warm Gun Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think casperld is right. In the Anthology book, John mentioned how the three parts of the song were like a mini history of rock and roll. It's also about that gun ad he saw, and references drug use, etc... That being said, this is one of my favorite songs ever. All three parts are euphoric, especially the harmonies during the "happiness" part and John's screaming. :) |
