I think this song isn't about a girl, it's about Catalina Island. I mean...I'm from the UK, but I'm guessing it's only a boat ride away from the coast..? Plus with all the boat and squid references. Blahblah. My favourite tune on the album anyway. |

This has got to be the worst song Kris has written. It makes me cringe and want to adopt the foetal position. The opening lyrics are schoolkid poetry - as soon as I hear them sung, all I can think is 'what the hell is this??' I do like the Ataris. I love the Ataris. I like songs about relationships etc. I would have liked this song more if the music was good...but no...that's too saccharine it makes me projectile vomit. This is just my opinion, as valid as the next person's... |

I don't mean to spoil the party, but this is the only thing I dislike about The Ataris. Occasionally, they write a crap, cheesy song which makes me cringe. Much like Alone in Santa Cruz. Don't get me wrong, I love the Ataris...just...this is crap. Ok, so it does get better towards the end, and the breakdown and all that....but...*cringe* |

It's about another band called Hot Water Music. Elektra threatened legal action, or something, and I think No Idea wanted them to change their name. Chuck says that the name of the band is in his skin, and they'd never change it. I read that somewhere. Awesome riff, though...anyone played Emogame? Couldn't have chosen a better tune to play to... |

Oh, and by the way - has anyone actually realised that this song probably isn't literally associated with someone becoming an actual cop. There is way too much taken seriously here.
This is part of the reason people form bands, write songs, poetry and novels. To put their thoughts and feelings into something solid and real. If you don't like it, don't let it affect you. Nobody's going to challenge your innermost feelings - that should be a crime in itself.
In life there are going to be things you don't agree with. Take the rough with the smooth, stop worrying and getting a hernia over a song which means little to anyone apart from Matt Skiba and think about your life, if you need a haircut, when you last brushed your teeth, if you should take a bath or a shower this evening and if there is anyone you've upset.
I hope you get my drift.. |

Excuse me, but there ARE rules in war, LoganNYC. Ever heard of someone on trial for 'War Crimes'?
But that's beside the point. I don't think you came here to look at lyrics for this song or because of any interest in Alkaline Trio or Leftover Crack, you just came here looking for exactly what's happened now. It's obviously an emotive subject, especially for you right now, and everyone has their own views and memories or all things police-related. You don't know how some people here have been effected by actions taken by the police, so don't try and dismiss that.
I'm not saying you're wrong.
I'm not saying pretty in punk is wrong.
The US police get more media attention than you think here in the UK. Think about it. America is a big country. People living outside the US can have a view into the police force. There are so many things on TV, so many films...I know this may be irrelevant...but I think you need to experience European police. It's not quite the same. And don't try all the 'media is shit' bollocks, it's the same for everyone. Don't be COMPLETELY narrowminded.
Oh, and I'd rather be called a 'Limey' than an 'American'. I'll look forward to Bush annoying Hussein. And in turn I'll look forward to your dad, and possibly yourself, being very busy this coming year.
