| Halsey – Graveyard Lyrics | 2 years ago |
| Video along with lyrics remind me of the movie Nightmare Alley, where the female lead is tragically in love with a man who is no good, and it is destroying her. | |
| Eagles – Life In The Fast Lane Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| Been singing along to this song for years and had the lyrics wrong.\n\n"terminally vain" (correct "pretty") which doesn\'t rhyme with "city". This made sense to me because it describes the nature of a sexually-based relationship. And later her obsession with drugs is so strong she doesn\'t care about them damaging her looks (lines on her face).\n\n"tryin\' to get off" (correct "dying") Seeking pleasure from the drugs. The correct lyric doesn\'t sound like it has a double meaning. Maybe wanting to escape from the addiction. | |
| Dire Straits – On Every Street Lyrics | 4 years ago |

This song rang a chord for me after falling in and out of love in 1997-98. I wasn't ready for a relationship. She was an alcoholic and I soon found she wasn't ready either. The lyrics about looking for a lost love were me looking for the person who sent me love letters and attention on long phone calls. I'm pretty sure I wasn't the first one which is covered in the lyrics as well. |

| Genesis – Snowbound Lyrics | 4 years ago |

They'll never, never know Covered red that only we can see The kids joy and partial make believe has brought the snowman to life, similar to Frosty. Instead of a magic hat, it is the spirits of our ancestors. That we hear in a wind chime or in this case see in a wonderous glittering fresh snowfall. But like Toy Story they can't see him due to the world's influence. Their partial belief causes them to miss the magic, not just of the snowman (who is startlingly real when seen in the corner of one's eye) but the season -- the "love of all who lie so deep". As in the Polar Express movie our belief leads to reverence for what others make fun of. Or knock down. |

| I always thought the lyric was "Trying to light the fire down inside of you / I don't mind to have to swallow my pride / To get at feelings that you never knew" | |
| Genesis – Say It's Alright Joe Lyrics | 6 years ago |

I thought the same as AdamantVision. The alcohol was working its magic and the "Kings" section is the manic phase. I bought this album in college for Follow You, a shallow pop song. Repeated listenings and I saw what great storytellers these guys were. The song reminds me of a sad movie Requiem for a Dream, where opiates fool them into thinking everything will be all right when the drug is sealing their doom. |

| The Beatles – She Came In Through the Bathroom Window Lyrics | 6 years ago |
|
"police department ... steady job". I thought it was a criticism of the police department, because this particular group of policemen were not working often enough to protect Paul's home from groupies. And "groupies" is probably not a strong enough word for them. These are the kind that would likely tear a lock of hair out because they want to posses something of their idol. Wikipedia says they stole clothes and photos, including one of his father. "Steal but not rob". "Rob" might imply stealing money which they weren't after. |

| Peter Gabriel – San Jacinto Lyrics | 7 years ago |
| I remember reading that some native Americans were trying to fight the invasion with purely spiritual means. That's what I think of for "hold the line". As if in a trance you could hold back time with your will. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_Dance | |
| Led Zeppelin – Black Dog Lyrics | 9 years ago |
| "Steady rollin'" as in roll in the hay. He wishes he had a nice girl with libido instead of the one that was sexually attractive but broke his heart. (Left him "down and out".) | |
| Yes – Changes Lyrics | 10 years ago |
| "One word" are marriage vows, i.e. "I do". Which includes several limits on liberty, including fidelity. | |

| Yes – Changes Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I was thinking that the first "one word" (design on your liberty) would be "I do". The second "one word" is the breakup. "Who could believe" that they would move on after making that strong promise? "Changing places" might be the other party now wanting out when before they wanted in, and the storyteller now being the one left "believing in love that wasn't there". Marriage is like that and if you don't stick it out you may have to learn the same thing (not to be selfish or jealous) in the next relationship. I like the positive spin Yes lyrics have too. |

| Peter Gabriel – Red Rain Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| Most of Peter Gabriel's songs are about sex, so I wouldn't be surprised. | |
| The Fixx – Opinions Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Sounds like a breakup song. Reminds me a little of _Let's Talk About Me_ by Alan Parsons Project. | |
| The Fixx – Saved By Zero Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
In the music video for the song, the artist is saved by not being successful and "selling out" to rich people who have only a shallow understanding of art. It's not clear if he succeeds through failure or by never trying. There's also a "Club Zero" sign on the top of the building, but that's probably just there to help the song title stick in your head. So you can remember what to ask for when you get to the record store. |

| Tom Petty – Don't Come Around Here No More Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Possibly about one of Stevie Nicks relationships. The lyrics are about giving up on a relationship ("please say it's over"). Dates are backwards though. Petty's song was 1985. Nick's album "The Other Side of the Mirror" (as in Lewis Carrol "Through the Looking Glass") was 1989. |
